Have a 2007 2.3 120hp Ducato and found the engine fuse box is shorting across between two relay pins and therefore goosed.

Had a look on flea bay and see lots of apparently identical units but all have a slightly different part number to mine, I assume as the manual suggest only one setup for fuses and relays the units must be swappable. Can anyone confirm if this is the case?

Hi Kegless
The fusebox is a fairly simple structure of plastic with formed metal strips, and any short circuit is quite likely be visible (and repairable) with a bit of dismantling to access the "wiring" side. Are you sure the fault is in the fusebox itself and not in one of the looms that connect to it ? I only ask because short circuits commonly arise when unwanted movement causes insulation to eventually wear away and then conductors touch each other or earthed metalwork. This movement is more likely for a flexible wiring loom than for a fairly rigid fuse assembly.

There is a 72ohm resistance between pins the relay pins 86 and 87 (two different circuits) with nothing else connected to the fuse box inc the relay. So I am pretty confident to have located the issue to the fuse box. I have done pin to pin, and pin to ground testing on the rest of the loom so happy with the rest of it.

The Fuseboxes are different depending upon the spec level of the vehicle after phoning the parts department of a fiat dealership. The fusebox with part number ending 46080 is on mine which has the option of front fog lights (not fitted on my vehicle) but the part number 44080 will also work as long as I don't have front fogs fitted. So worth checking if you need to swap this part out. Incidentally new engine fuse box £172+vat.

check your vin number before replacing the fuse box whilst the look the same and have the same fuse locations i know of 2 different ones for the x250 there may be more the way it plugs into the ecm is different
