obd ducato 250 2,3 multijet 130 2013

Hi

First i like to thank you for a great forum!

After having problems with engine light and abs lights on my 2013 250 ducato I decided to buy a OBD diagnosis tool (icarsoft for fiat, not allowed to post link)
After contacting their support they told me they do NOT support the 2013 model (something with a difference in the OBD connection).

Tried other brands but they don't even answer when I mention the year....

Ive seen many of you use multiecuscan and my car is in the support list but since they don't separate the model years i get suspicious.

Anyone with a 2013 that can recommend OBD multiscan with reset?

Thank You / Markus

Hi,
I don't have a Ducato but do use MES. You don't say which engine your van has, but MES lists support for both pre and post facelift (2014) models of the 250 Ducato. For pre-facelift (2013?) models the ABS module is accessible in the free version of MES so you can try that before paying the (modest €50) registration fee.
You will need an ELM 327 to USB interface and either an A1 (Green) or A3 (Yellow) adaptor lead depending on the engine in your van. I suggest you get a set like ebay item http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/162524569889
If you have a laptop available the total cost with registration is under €100, less than most garages will charge for a single diagnostic session.
I'm pretty sure that MES will work with your van.

Thank you for the link Robert. Sorry for not posting the engine.. its a 2,3 multijet 130 with an automatic gearbox. I saw that it is in the support list but since there seems to be exceptions I was hoping that someone actually tried on this year.

Was looking for a easy to use diagnosis tool and all these different connectors was not what i was hoping for but if the software is otherwise easy to use I think i can handle it. To try the free version first is a good idea.

Re: obd ducato 250 2,3 multijet 130 2013

You can download mes then select your vehicle and click simulate. You will then be able to explore it and see every thing you can access.
All of the above costs nothing.
It really is very very good.

Don't worry about the extra connectors you will get to grips with it quickly.
Only one extra connector is used at a time.

Re: obd ducato 250 2,3 multijet 130 2013

The easiest approach is an ELM327 bluetooth adapter and a free or almost free app on your smartphone or tablet. Once the adapter is in the ODB socket it is not easy to pull it out again, you probably need something with a suction cup. Mine has been sitting there for several years already, waiting for a bluetooth device to communicate with.

Hi,
Sorry but this almost certainly will NOT work for the OP's situation.

What vehicle do you have and what App do you use?
A standard ELM 327 will not access the ABS system without an adaptor lead. most "phone" based apps have limited diagnostic functionality even for cars (AlfaOBD is possible exception) never mind vans.

Re: obd ducato 250 2,3 multijet 130 2013

My vehicle is a 2007 MJ-120.
I have tried several apps, the one I like best is "Car Doctor Pro". It shows all engine data I'm interested in, displays dynamic data in graphs and clears stored errors. About ABS I'm not sure because that is one of the few vehicle parts that has had no issues (yet).

Very nice of you to try and help , thank you , but Robert is correct regarding the ABS .

If you have an elm or kkl interface but no adapters you can desolder the wire from pin 7 and solder to pin 1 to talk to ABS or fit a switch to switch from pin 1 to pin 7. Some people fit a jumper wire so that 1 & 7 are both connected. You dont need registered version to reach fault codes.

This is true and I've built my own switched interfaces. However, the OP is not technically capable of this, if you read the thread he was hoping to avoid adaptor leads.

"but if the software is otherwise easy to use I think i can handle it"

If its a 250 ducato its ABS 8 and multiecuscan will read it regardless of the year.

You can buy an elm adapter at any Kjell & Co (although being sweden it probably 5 times the normal price) and living in Sweden I would be very surprised if he doesn't know someone who can solder a wire.

Thanks all for the great advice's!! I have done some soldering... and it wasn't pretty! :) So if i can avoid it, i will. i have been looking at the suggested multiecuscan solution and since many have problems with fake elm327 im about to order (with yellow adapter) from, by multiecuscan recommended seller, ELECTRONIC-FUCHS, a bit higher prices but as a swede im unfortunately used to it... :-(
Will report back later to confirm that my year on ducato was supported. Thanks!

I have bought from the ebay seller I linked to and their interfaces work (on termination resistor the cheap ones wrongly have fitted).

tried them but unfortunately they do not ship internationally.

I have a spare (unused) set I could ship you at cost. If you wish I'll get an accurate postage cost to Sweden. A guess at 400g gives a postage cost of £15 (tracked service) Even when added to the cost of the kit it might still be cheaper than Fuchs. Send me a private message.

Sorry, didn't see your generous offer G8RPI. haven't received instant email notification
Electronic-fuchs gave me a good price on elm327 2 adapters, shipping and full license for 99 euros.

After some problems with the drivers i got it running, but it isn't stable, tried to clear a error code but had to do it 3 times before success.

My ABS (9 not 8) errors was: C0037 - Rear left wheel speed sensor AND C003A - Rear right wheel speed sensor, both sides at the same time?? seems unlikely. anyone seen this?

But, it speaks with my 250 facelift Ducato! and this is what I was looking for. Again, Thank you.(y)

If you have a multimeter, check the resistance between pins 6 and 14 of the interface. If it is less than 200 ohms the interface has the design flaw of a terminating resistor that should not be there. This can make the connection intermittent. Both wheel sensor showing as a fault coul be a bad connection, the sensors used are very sensitive to bad connections
