Hi
Had my Ducato Campervan with 2,3jtd (2005) tuned the other day.
The increased power an tourque was impressive (+35hp / 75Nm)
But there is (always) a downside, the clutch is slipping at about 2000rpm
The car has only 60K (km) on the meter and unless the previuos owners had a thing about not letting the clutch pedal out its telling me that a new original clutch soon will suffer the same.
Im also due for a 3" downpipe and silincer mod so my main concern is the clutch.

So: have eny of you experience of upgrading the clutch for the 2,3jtd.
Or is there a chance that the larger ( 243mm dia) clutch for the 2,8jtd or other stock items might fit?

Thanx

I think you may have gone a bit to far with the torque as being a camper it will always be running heavy and these things are not built with a lot of over engineering to spare these days.

If you find an upgraded clutch I assume it will have stronger springs and this will make a lot of gear changes tiresome and IF you have the model with the plastic clutch pedal it won't last long.

I can understand you wanting more pulling power but their is a price to pay, as its a camper what is the rush just pootle about and enjoy it (y)

OR!!! buy one with a bigger engine :D Just my views, good luck with your upgrades.

Mike

Thank you Taffybloke for your concern regarding my power needs.
I have many years of experience with upgrading and increasing power on Ducato diesels.
My previous 1996 mod went thru a series of mod and upgrades that gave the 2,5Tdi far more power and torque than my 2005 mod 2,3Jtd has today.
Clutch upgrade (fitted a 2,8Tdi clutch) was one of the required upgrades, the upgraded clutch had as you said stiffer springs but suited the 2,5Tdi very well, both for power and comfort.

The 2,8Jtd clutch i am considering have the same gearbox-spline and if the Italian engineers have done as they normally do when constructing commercial engines (made by Iveco) they might have used the same hole pattern in the crank-wheel for several engines and thereby reducing engineering cost.

What i need to know is simply if the clutch house have the same hole pattern on the 2,3Jtd and the 2,8Jtd?

I am NOT going for a Racing clutch i just want a clutch that can take about +400Nm

Ps bigger engine is NOT an option for me, i have tried the 3,0L 160 engine and the engine is sure nice but it is way to heavy for my taste, i use my camper-van for everyday use in heavy traffic as well as hauling trailers and camping all over Europe so added weight (especially) in the nose is not what i want.

But ill end up with the same HP in the end :D

Good to know thanks I haven't come across them before.

As far as I know the only change sachs make is chaning to organic clutch material which adds 15% so you'd probably be better off with the larkspeed kit.

Could possibly do the trick yes, but i belive there is a different spline on the new model...
The clutch housing tho could be my salvage, getting more pressure on the disk itself often do the trick.

I'm hoping that you can tellme how you sorted it please in the end?
