Hi all
Hopeing you may be able to help. I've read through brake threads but haven't found anything specific to my problem so hopefully someone may know. We have a Ducato 1.9TD 2001, hubby has replaced wto front brake hoses, all of the brake pipes (one failed MOT but throught to do all as he was there) rear shoes and rear cylinders. He's started bleeding the brakes from the rear but the pedal isn't firming up. Any advice? Not sure if there is ABS on our van how would we check for that and would we need to bleed this first?

Any help/advice appreciated
Many thanks
Carin

Hi. ABS should be obvious..as there will be sensors at each wheel
What method of refilling. Pressure/ vacuum..
or just pumping with the pedal?

Unless the brake reservoir has gone really low whilst changing the brake components I don't think you need worry about air in the abs circuit.
The easiest way to bleed the system is to let gravity do its bit by just opening up the cylinder bleed nipples in turn (keep the reservoir topped up) until you have a steady drip flow and then get a Gunson Easibleed kit and go round them all again. Don't use much more than 20psi pressure in the system to be safe. Using the Easibleed really shifts trapped air and can be done single handed.
If air is in the abs circuit then you will have to use external software to cycle the abs pump to open and close the internal valves to shift any air but hopefully you won't have to go down this route.
