In the last oil filter change, one broken piece appeared attached to the oil filter. Could anybody help identificating this piece. I don't know this piece's function and may be important.

I don't seem to recognise what that is and I've worked on hundreds of ducato's maby picked up from the road ? Maby a few more pics from different angle?

The piece came out trough the red hole of the picture. The piece is made of hardened steel, like a spring.

The piece wasn't in the road, I took it from the hole. Could be from the engine and be carried by the oil?

Have you tried taking the oil cooler off ? It's a 13mm alan key and you just undo the centre thread where the oil filter screw on too, you may loose some coolant in the process of this

In the next oil change I'll take the oil cooler off. I am afraid of this piece colud come from other place of the engine. The engine runs correctly without any fault.

Could be a oil overpressure bypass valve?

It's very very unlikely that the mystery component has travelled from elsewhere in the engine as it is too large to fit through oil gallerys, most likley to be something behind or from inside the cooler itself, I wouldnt leave it too long if I where you in case it is something major but I doubt it

The next month I'll change the distribution belt . I'll make two things at the same time.
