Fitting Reverse Camera for Fiat ducato 2004

Hi, I have just received this camera bought from eBay today
http://goo.gl/7mrG7S

As am not really a techie person, can someone guide me through the connection process . Where do i connect the wires from the camera to and how do I get to the wires without cutting them on half!

And which of the wire is positive, -ve , reverse?
It a fiat ducato 2004.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Fitting Reverse Camera for Fiat ducato 2004

Have you considered reading the information on the site you purchased the unit from regarding which coloured leads are negative or positive?
Could you ask the supplier to email you the instructions perhaps?
Just a thought...

It says on the Ebay page red is plus, black is minus. The red wire has an inline fuse holder.
Connecting that to the reverse light unit is a bit of a hassle because Fiat uses no wires in the rear light units, just bare galvanized strips that have been there since 2004 and surely are dark grey from corrosion so you probably have little luck with a soldering iron.

I would guide both the video and the power cable to the cabin. You can use the wires to the cigaret lighter for + and - 12V. It means the camera will be powered as soon as you turn the key but since the camera draws not much current that is no problem.
Do the same with the display unit. There are small 3M connectors you can use to add a wire without cutting and stripping.

Go on to 'parking cameras.com' or 'reversing cameras uk' and you'll find out all you want to know.

The easiest way it to take power from the cab light for the monitor screen and use the remote wire from the camera so it comes on with side lights or reversing light. Its a simple task that i have done a few times now. Take both earth and live from the bulb that you chose REV or SIDE Then run the connector straight to the cam. Now the wire plug that goes onto the metal strip that holds the bulbs is where you attach to.Not the galvanised plates, as this will not be a successful connection. So use the plastic block that plugs onto the light unit and source the wires from there. strip the plastic cover a few inches to join to and JD

Re: Fitting Reverse Camera for Fiat ducato 2004

Thanks for the replies. Will be installing this on Saturday.

I have a few questions:
Can I connect the camera wires to the brake light ?

Also, I will need to drill a hole on van s body; what is the drill bit size to use ?

Thanks

Re: Fitting Reverse Camera for Fiat ducato 2004

The wiring will depend on the loom sent with it - colours vary.

The Red will be power and have a fuse holder in-line. The earth is black. The reverse will be either green or blue usually, but no guarantee. Just power the cable and it should pop the screen up.

The reverse feed will come from the switch on top of the gearbox, probably green - Seville vans change loom colours every 3 months, so check the wiring diagram for the wire number and go by that. Usually middle wire of the three - it is only a switch - so test it. If you don't have a meter, use a bulb to see if it comes on when you put into reverse.

Mains power must be isolated or you will spike the monitor eventually. They are delicate. If you are newer canbus model (newer than x244) then you may lose the lighting when the BCM sees an illicit drain.

Can't possibly be easier to fit! Really won't offer you any difficulties at all.

Re: Fitting Reverse Camera for Fiat ducato 2004

It's done now thanks to all.

I will appreciate if anyone can help with the colour for the +ve &-ve wire for side light on the passenger side - I want to connect the second cam to that so it only switches on with the sidelight. I could have used the plate no. Wire but the van is all panelled around there.

Re: Fitting Reverse Camera for Fiat ducato 2004

Sorry for late reply, meeting in Europe with a well known manufacturer - things are looking exciting in the next few years!

The colour will not be generic. They change every 3 months as they do not buy set wiring, they buy whatever is cheapest - so the colours change! Might be Black with Red Tracer, OR Blue Tracer. They did use White Tracer Commonly as well. Some went to Yellow with Red Tracer or Green depending on model and year/ build date.
Don't forget these are not Fiat Built Vehicles.

It is important that we know what age your vehicle is, as if you tap wires on the wrong age - you can cause havoc.

Why would you want it on with sidelights anyway? Just wire one of your cameras to ignition live if you want it on with ignition.

BTW - I'm an auto sparks.
