Hi all, I'm not sure of this is just me doing something wrong, I've only had the van for a coule of days so I'm still finding my way around.
I pulled into my local petrol station yesterday morning, filled her up with diesel and went to pay... when I got back to the van I put the key into the ignition (the fob one) and tried to start her up... it was turning over no problem but wouldn't fire up.. it felt like the immobiliser was on.
Same thing happened today when I called into a shop for my lunch, I had the basic key with me both times so I used that and it started straight away, am I doing something wrong?

You have said in the petrol station it turned over but would not start so is it still in the petrol station yet ????

Hi... No.. I used the secondary key after the problem in the petrol station and after the shop today and it started no problem

I can't really help with the problem but am puzzled by your reference to 'basic' and 'secondary' keys.

The 244 system had a red master & two slaves but from your other post you have an 2009 X250. AFAIK (I have a 2010, probably 2009 build) the two keys are identical so if one doesn't work it might be worth trying a new fob battery.

Do you have both keys on the same keyring in that case both could reply at the same time confusing things or the key ending up with the wrong rolling code in which caae it will need to be recoded to the van.

Hi guys sorry a bit confusing I guess... The main key has a fob with buttons for locks etc. the secondary key doesn't it's just got a plastic end but both are on the same keyring. I did notice this morning that when I use the fob key that there is a lock symbol on the display and she won't start just turns over. When I use the secondary key the lock isn't there and she starts first time everytime.

Quick update... I changed the battery in the key fob and went to start the van.. I inserted the key into the ignition and turned the key... nothing, just turning over, however, I noticed there was a lock symbol on the instrument panel!
I then tried with the 'other key' and the lock symbol was there for a second and then disappeared, turned the key and she fired up.
I tried the fob key again and this time I held the key level with the blade in the barrel and the lock symbol was there for a second, it disappeared and started up no problem... the issue seems to be caused if the fob is hanging down when turning the ignition. I guess there has to be some sort of connection between the fob and the blade to allow starting??

Interesting that you mention that the key fob works when it is in line with the blade as the two keys I have (AFAIK these are the original keys supplied by Fiat) have been manufactured to operate in this way.

The key blade will fold back into the fob if required when not being used but is rigidly hinged to the fob.

Sounds like it's had some aftermarket keys. There's a circular antenna around the ignition that talks to transponder in the key they need to be very close to communicate as the transponder is powered by the electromagnetic field. Also you shouldn't ever have two transponders on the keyring you can end up with the wrong code in your keys and immobiliser.
