I AM NEW Please Help.


Ducato 2.8 2003,36000 miles


Showed hot automatic gearbox fluid when no more than 3 miles from ferry,constant red light, went into Limp Mode,left it for half hour started fine went off. Happened again 2 weeks later on really hot day, got out to apologise to irate French person got back in started up went back to normal. Drove home circa 900 miles no problem.
Anyone any thoughts' as we have lost a bit of confidence and would like it sorted.

Personally i'd put it down to a Duff sensor Ray .... You say yourself it drove 900 miles back WITHOUT a Problem ......so either

A, A duff sensor

or

B. A chaffed wire from the sensor (earthing it out) & causing LIMP Mode & Red light to Illuminate ...

The oil temp thermistor is located on the top of the box & is connected via a two wire socket (I would be looking at the connections within THAT SOCKET as a Starting point Ray .....

Attacking it from another angle ................Has the Gearbox Oil Ever been changed ???? after 12 years of use it'll look like LIMP DISHWATER by now ..... & if it says its a "SEALED FOR LIFE GEARBOX "... Ignore it & change it anyway ...... Example an Asin/Warner 50/55 Box is fitted to a Renault Laguna 2 & Marked "SEALED FOR LIFE" ...... the EXACT SAME BOX is fitted in a Volve V70 (mark 2) & it states .. "OIL CHANGE AFTER 150,000 Miles....

Now YOU TELL ME ..... Its THE SAME BOX made in the SAME factory ...Hell it COULD be assembled on the very same Production line... yet 1 Manufacturer says "SEALED FER LIFE" & the other says "Change Oil after 150K"........

NOTHING IS SEALED FER LIFE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would never ever buy a Renault but my Volvo 740 estate was still running well at 240,000 miles when I finally sold it so perhaps a Renault's life is expected to be less than 150,000 miles:D

oh TOTALLY Agree .. I had 850 T5R it had 287,000 miles on when I flogged it on & its STILL going Now (4 Years later) ..... if ever you go up into the Lakes coming out of Ambleside along the lake theres a "pull in" wiv an "ice Cream" trailor .. its towed by My old 850 T5R .. (red) N52 CJN .....

used to annoy me no end .... STUPID prices fer Gearbox "bits" from Volvo & off yer go to Renault & you could a WHOLE NEW BOX fer the Price of a Syncro Ring !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
