Hi Harz, just to let you know that my Ducato went into Fiat for a new Turbo and they have given me a courtesy Ducato 130 swb. This too has been restricted, very embarrasing when going up a hill and there is a queue of traffic behind you. I was told that the restriction is in the mapping of the van if thats any help.

Also when somebody previously asked how you had got on, I was going to get in and say that you were probably still on your way to the garage lol.

Morning Pasty, greetings from the Harz Mountains.

Yeah, thiis is a bit of a problem with the derestriction.

I'm a Chartered Engineer by profession (retired) but this has me really puzzled.

The first thing is that I can't even find anyone at Fiat who know's exactly 100% what the solution is. I think we're all agreed guys that the resriction is in the ECU but is it also restricted by another means.

For example, the Honda NSR250R MC28 (the bike with the credit card ignition) was oly made in Japan and sold to the japanese market at 45bhp. Everyone at the time thought it was just a case of getting the card changed but in fact it was restricted the ECU, the credit card and the bloody wiring loom (which had to be changed for the HRC racing loom).

I'd really like the definitive answer from someone at Fiat who really knows the answer before I start changing the ECU.

By the way guys, when I took the can in to get the German headlight units adjusted bfore the Tuv I asked the guys if they could plug their Bosch diagnostic gear in to my van and they did find the 'cruise control' limiter and took that off but obviously it made no difference.

We live in hope guys:bang:

Come on guys, let's gang up on Fiat and do a sort of mob thing at their service centres.

Surely someone must know what the answer is ?

Best regards Si

Fiat can only reduce the limit as I already said you need someone who can read and write dumps to the ecu and bsi units and calculate the checksum. The 2.2 120 is probably less widel supported than the 2.3 120 so make sure you tell whatever shop you chose which one you have before you drive there.

This will show you how easy it is for someone with the correct tools:

As to your plan of getting an ecu - when you connect it it will get the limit from the bsi.

Mmm this is interesting reading ,in a 2.2 transit the facility is there in the pcm to adjust the limiter up and down however it will not work it has to be done in module reprogramming in the hybrid electrical unit ie body module by reprogramming the as built data , unfortunately I don't have that many ducatos in , if i do happen to get one on will gladly bung that fiat tool on and have a look round .

Hi guys, thanks for all the answers and support but I promise I am banging my bloody head against a brick wall here.

I spoke to Braunschweig Fiat who said it couldn't (or they couldn't or were not willing to do it).

Fiat Germany won't speak to me (I haven't got time to explain).

There is a small ray of light on the horizon however. By a chance meeting with another Fiat Ducato owner in the bank carpark in our local town yesterday I found out there's a specialist Fiat/Ford dealer in the town and the 'Fiat' flying doctor is going to be there at 8am on Monday so I'm going down there with my shotgun :yum:. I'll be back to you with the results.

You need anyone to "ride Shotgun" Simon .. let me know .... Me & the other biker guys will be over in a flash mate ....... (Alan does Extreme Knitting....... John's into Extreme Ironing & ME??? .. I'm well into Crocheting !!!!!!!!!!! ...
GOOD LUCK Mate .. hope it turns out well ..

Keith

Over the years before we kitted ourselves out with pretty much every piece of main dealer kit there is , that dealers will only do what they know how to with the tool and won't experiment with it , the first thing I do when we get a new peice of kit is stay on after work stick it on something and play with it and see just what you can do and how far you can go with it , the worse that can happen is I end up having to reprogram it when I've wiped it by accident !!

Not familiar with the ford gear, could it be the cruise control speed limiter its changing I wonder?

I took at look at a backed up file I have from 2008 120 2.3 the speed limiter enable byte is at 1F9757 in the file its set to 1 for enabled and 0 for disabled.

The ones I've done haven't had cruise , it does list it as vehicle speed limit in the menu , let's hope they leave it as it is there's talk of it going the same way as Volvo

Evening guys from the freezing Harz !

My Ducato has a 'cruise control'facility on the front facia right hand side of the steering wheel which I guess is pretty common and also standard on most Ducatos. That little gizmo is working-when I say working , you can adjust the speed, you can turn it on and off but it makes sod all ´difference so I guess what ever is governing the top speed in 5th and 6th is also effecting the 'tempomats' performance or indeed completely overriding it.

I'm not an electrical engineer guys so the above statement is purely an educated guess and not made under the influence of 3 bottles of Einbeck Mai ur Bock:D

Oh no, definitely not .......................... hick :)

Does cruise control work at speed lower than the max speed? If your cruise control isn't working at all its likely that the someones done a cheap dpf / egr off job and messed up the ecu.

Morning ECU, thanks for the reply.

It doesn't work at all. On the way back from the UK I tried every combination I could think of and it doesn't make any difference and I'll further add it doesn't actually work as a 'cruise control' at all, at any speed or on any setting

Right hand side? I thought cruise, either genuine or aftermarket "stalks" are generally always fitted to the left side of steering wheel, lower than the indicator stalk?

Is it the speed warning set in the menu on the panel to the right of the steering wheel?
I believe as I don't use or never have, that that only warns you via a loud beep and visual on display that you've hit the preset speed.
This can be turned on or off, increase or decrease the set speed or just ignore as its just a warning doesn't affect the vehicles speed.

Rolopolo, thanks for clearing that up. I didn't think it was a cruise control I couldn't think of another way of describing it.

Now you have confirmed to me exactly what it does I am happy to confirm that it doesn't do anything :) No beeps or anything but it does 'allow' you to switch on and off and adjust the speed. I tried it at all sorts of speed including 5mph in the Chunnel car park.

Just tried mine, as never used, set at 55mph and yep she just beeps and visual warning only, hope you manage to sort it mate

Neil

Hope he can sort it mate, reckon it's ECU/BSI type map program unless somewhere under the dash there's an aftermarket plug in speed limiter box,

My aftermarket cruise ECU/connectors is located behind the trim panel under steering wheel, where he tapped into the speed pulse wire somewhere near (I assume) the throttle pedal potentiometer (fly by wire)
I believe as well these cruise devices have a limited option (which I've never looked into using) so I also assume there are aftermarket plug in units that would possibly be used in bulk by firms buying/leasing a block order of vans

But I also may be wrong on all counts :)

Good luck tomorrow

Evening guys, not forgotten you. Right the sorry saga continues. I wanted to post this on Monday night but I've not been here all week.

Can you guess what the outcome was?????????

Here we go, be prepared for a roller coaster of a ride.

As arranged, I was out Firme Dörge in Osterode at 8am to meet the flying doctor but he wasn't there. We'd had a foot of fresh snow and he was stuck somewhere. I said no problem, when he does get here can you ring me and left them my mobile number. 5 hours later I'd heard nothing and fed up with drinking coffee in McDonalds I drove round there and sure enough he had turned up and they hadn't rung me.

Waited for 10 minutes when one of the workshop bods came into to reception and took the keys off me, drove my van into the workshop and there it stood for 10 minutes. Engine off, alarm on and doors locked.

A further 10 minutes passed and the same workshop employee came back in to reception and handed me the keys and said the message from the flying doctor was that it couldn't be done.

How's that then? I enquired.

He told me (the flying doctor) to tell you (me) that any ECU fitted to any Ducao van prior to 2011 is not reprogrammable and that's it.

I then said, he didn't even look at it.

The workshop bod then replied 'Iknow'

He then presented me with a bill for 30 euro which I then proceeded to rip into a million pieces and throw on the floor with the following comment and of course all in German but here's the jist of it in English.

'If I receive from you guys any invoice,or any correspondence what soever demanding payment you will be hearing from my solicitor'

When I got home I sent a stinking email to Fiat Germany detailing what had transpired (nothing) and unbelievably I got a reply the next morning saying they are investigating but I've heard nothing further yet.

If it wasn't for the fact that I like my Ducato and there's nothing wrong with it (apart from the fact it won't go over 110 kmh in 5th and 6th) I'd have set fire to it and left it in their yard.

Right, I'm

off to McDonalds for a cappocino :)

PS. Here#the firms detailsin case anyone wants to send them a dead fish or a horses head
