Hi,
I fitted a cd/radio unit to my 2.8 idtd as the radio unit that was fitted when I bought the van wasnt working. The cd/radio was from a ducato motorhome and I sent for the code and entered it and all was fine. However the unit gets a bit lonely when I park up and when I return is playing having switched itself on.It switches off again after 20 mins and then switches on again whenever it feels like it.
This is regardless of the ignition switch position.Anyone got a suggestion ?

Have you got a permanent 12v supply to the radio other than the one that keeps the radio station memory alive?
There are usually two 12v feeds (yellow and red on some) one for the actual radio/cd to work and the memory as above.
Have a root around at the back of the radio with a multimeter and find the one that's only live with the ignition on and use that for the main feed to the radio.
If you need to use the radio with key out you will have to put a switch in the 12v permanent feed but still keep the memory feed connected otherwise your stations will be lost.
Good luck.

Thanks for the response Toyogran.
The wiring plugs were the exact connection to the unit even colour coded..The unit can be switched on without the key and all stations remain in memory. Its maybe a fault within the unit ?

Hi, if you can turn the radio on without the ignition then it isn't wired via the ign key switch.
Radios are supposed to be 'standard' via DIN connectors but in my experience there are a lot of minor irritating variations.
Reset the radio (if there is a pin hole reset thingy) and try that if not you will have to wire it up 'manually' and get the 12v supply live only with the ign on (which is usual to stop you draining the starter battery).
I seem to remember another instance of random radio syndrome on this forum. There may be a gremlin in the radio/cd but they can be quite expensive to solve and a separate in line isolating switch would be much cheaper.
Try googling the radio/cd model and see what comes up (even if it says Fiat on the radio it will be manufactured by one of the major manufactures like Blaupunkt, Pioneer etc).
Happy listening.

Hi heres an update,
selected menu and IGN.TIME, 2 options 00min & 20min
00min switches radio on and off from key.
20min doesnt switch radio on from key but switches off after 20 mins.
Dont know how these options affect initial switching on problem but will find out.Cant find any reset or manufacturer i.d.anywhere.
