Does anyone have the correct fuel pump timing position for a Fiat Ducato 280 2.4TD? Engine code is 8144.21, it's a 92hp 1989 Ducato. Unfortunately I don't have access to the manual for this engine.

If I understand correctly one should screw the dial gauge into the rear of the fuel pump, then locate the fuel pump piston TDC by turning the crank to and fro, then zero the dial gauge at that position, turn the crank forward to the engine timing position (piston 1/4 TDC) and then the dial gauge should show ... what value?

BTW. Does anyone know what the numbers on the top of the fuel pump mean? Is it for identification of the pump? Or is it the injection point for this pump? Can anyone identify my pump model? See attached photo

Just in case someone is interested - the value at crankshaft timing position on the 8144.21 engine should be 1.0mm. That is - turn the crankshaft to cylinder 1 TDC (the point at which the timing pin can be inserted through the drive belt pulley of the crankshaft).

Then turn crank backwards from TDC and zero the indicator at the bottom floor value. Then turn the crankshaft forwards to TDC again and read the value. The value should be 1.0mm, otherwise loosen the fuel pump and rotate it until it's 1.0mm.

I am very interested in this procedure. I could not get the pump pin and crank pin to align when I changed the timing belt (was same with old belt) It was always half a tooth out. I
had to rotate the pump to get the engine to run anyway right. It is running much better now but I would like to be able to set it correctly.
What type of dial gauge do I need to get?
Is the setting the same (1mm) for a 8140.27?

If the pump and crank timing position do not line up you could have the wrong type of timing belt. Maybe the previous belt was also wrong?
