Hi,

I have a 2009 motorhome with a 130 multijet.

A couple of months ago I noticed that the engine compartment was covered in a fine coating of oil, which I traced to the oil filler cap. This has caused all the tapes holding the electrical ducting to come away. I've cleaned up as well as I can but have more work to do.

My question is simply, should there be some kind of washer in the cap? The thread it fits onto has a flat bit at the side. I've wrapped ptfe around it for the moment and it seems to have stopped the leak.

Regards,

David

Firstly I must apologise for not responding to your replies. I wasn't getting notifications and haven't been around for a while.

Thank you both for your replies. It looks as if the problem could be either of those.

I assumed that the fine coating was due to the air turbulence from the radiator fan.

I need to dig around a bit over the winter. I think I can measure oil pressure with Multiecsuscan.

Thanks again guys.

Thanks for coming back again Charlie.

This is a new area for me. Last rebuild I did was on an old Mini Cooper, things were a lot simpler back then.

Should there be some kind of venting system? Consumption doesn't seem excessive and performance is ok. She only had 6500mls on her when we bought her and I suspect we always had the problem.

FM02MZO's post was interesting as his cap is obviously different to mine.

I'd welcome any further pointers. I have a heck of a big cleanup to do and obviously I want to make sure I've eliminated the source.

Best Regards.

I have just checked my 2013 (built 2012) 130 multijet and there is a rubber sealing ring in the oïl filler cap

Hi. Have you had the van from new, I am thinking perhaps the original cap was lost and replaced with the wrong type of cap.

Thanks guys.

Yes, I had a suspicion that there maybe should be a seal of some kind.

It was 2 years old and sitting at the dealer's for a few months before we came along and I know that other bits were "borrowed", including the TV, so it wouldn't be surprising if the cap was changed.

Of course if I'd known that it was there that long we would have haggled a bit harder. Such is hindsight

I need to go to the breakers for some Palio bits so I might see if they've got a cap to try.

Cheers
