My 92 motorhome built on a ducato 2.5 td is very slow on hills, i thought a 2.5 turbo should pull a bit better, engine seems ok with just 77k klms on the clock, no noticeable oil use between changes but does smoke and stink a bit on start up but clears after driving a couple of miles, having said all this it is pulling a 3 tonne camper, anyone have any help?

I guess you would have to drive something very similar to compare performance. Maybe visit a motorhome trader and ask to test drive one with the same engine as yours (don't tell them why). It also depends on how much you've loaded it up. Any van with a full load crawls like a snail up hills.
