Technical Ducato starter motor problem

Hi
My 2007 ducato 2.2 100 van sometimes makes a whirring noise instead of starting, then next turn it does start. Am i right in suspecting the starter or solenoid and how how difficult is it to change the starter motor in terms of access and location of bolts etc?

The Starter is located on the front of the engine, easiest way to access it is to remove the radiator, I've not replaced this yet so you may be able to access it from the top although I doubt it.
