Hi,
Hopefully there is someone around who can help me out.
cant engage reverse gear - not had the vehicle long - private purchase 31K - and reverse was a bit stiff to engage and needed a bit of a shove upwards but it worked fine for about 3 weeks.
now it just wont seem to go far enough up to get into r/gear.
forward gears work ok although 1 is a we bit stiff.

can lift the collar on the gear stick and move into the position where reverse used to be but just wont engage. managed to get reverse y/day but was a serious struggle.

guess its the linkage? and have looked at the previous post but that was on a previous version is it similar on an 2007 x250?

thanks if u can offer any advice

Hi, quick update
through brute force and ignorance i have managed to pry the gear stick shroud out of the the dash to expose what i think is a nylon gate mechanism. this all looks intact and seems to be working ok and the reverse lift on the stick clears the stop. the up and down movement on reverse and first is very stiff at the top of travel so need to look further down the linkage.

so next step i am going to do is remove the drop down lockable box at the lower center of the dash and see if i can see whats going on behind there.

suggestions?

OK managed to fix it! :)
There is a strange type of adjuster on the top of the cable where it connects to the gear stick that controls horizontal movement. couldn't see it until i took the lockable central glovebox out. had to take 4 bolts out and free the whole gear stick assembly so there was just enough room to get my big hand in the hole from the top and fully tighten the adjuster.

while i was under the vehicle looking for adjusters i noticed that the drain for the bonnet air intake discharges over the selector mechanism at the top of the gearbox. expect i have a gearbox full of water - feel another post coming on. suppose it never rains in italy!

Thanks for posting up the solution, it will be of help to others though hopefully this problem won't turn out to be another of the 'quirks' of the X250.

Perhaps you're missing the rubber pipe (about 30cm long) that fits on the air intake drain and directs the water over the back of the gearbox - and onto the driveshaft CV joint instead.. :)

The pipe is there but was twisted towards the offside directly over the selector.
so i have extended the pipe with some domestic waste pipe and directed it to the nearside away for selector.
hopefully this will save water from getting onto the selector.
time will tell!

Hey Bernie, can you give any more description of the adjuster you found. I've opened mine up and it didn't seem obvious what you meant. Im suffering from really stiff horizontal gear stick movement resulting in being really tough to find reverse. Cheers.

Sorry for delay - not droped by for a while.
the adjuster on mine was up at the stick end but i needed to free the dash gear stick assembly from underneath/through the drop down glove box befor i could adjust it. which i did by trial and error

i found this attachment after i did mine - might be useful

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately for me the pivot on the gearbox had seized and killed the cable. Both replaced now and works like new.

hi. a lot of problems come from the scuttle water ingress & i have heard that water can get in to the gear box from the bonnet air intake drainage pipe so i have cut the flat bit off the end & extended it well past the gear box plus put extra drainage pipes in the scuttle
