Some time between 10pm sat and 8am last monday morning some piece of sh*t pikey toe-rag rolled under my van and made it lighter by removing the cat, clamp and bolts.
Unfortunatly they didnt ask or tell me they were going to do this.
Over night, the van is parked on the drive a bloody foot from my front (looky out) window which is a foot from my (looky telly) chair.

Local dealer had 3 calls for the same vehicle that morning.
Dealer price approx £1100
Ebay price approx £300.

Has this happened to anyone on here.
I'm gonna get some cages made up if anyone's interested

2007 Citroen Relay, same as ducato.

5 days later
Bought a Cat (£278 delivered). When it didnt turn up on wed, I chased it up and was told the delivery van was stolen local to me so another one was sent.
Just got it, also picked up one of these www.catloc.eu. Not fitted it yet but it looks the nuts.

There was another stolen cat thread recently, so you're not alone.

The weak point with the Catloc device is that a pair of parrot nosed cutters would be able to cut the cables. Better, and cheaper, to just bolt the cat to the rest of the exhaust with shear bolts. Unlikely a thief is going to carry an angle grinder around with them.

Also, I don't think it's a good idea to have a label on the window telling a potential thief which security system you have. When fitting aftermarket alarm/immobilisers, I always used to think it would be better to use a label from a different manufacturer than the one supplied. "Forewarned is forearmed".

I had also problem with the thiefs, they broke passenger window on my fiat ducato and stole navigation from lower golve compartment
Also the van was parked in front of my house,10 meters from window....

Shear nuts/bolts wouldnt have stopped them. The pipe was neatly cut just behind the Cat.

One or two other little surprises for him if and when he comes back.

Sorry to hear about your loss. But do you have one shred of evidence it was a 'Pikey' or is that just your blind prejudice?

Back to topic. You could probably get away with a straight through pipe instead of buying another cat.

Dont be silly peter, they had a **** on the sofa they left on my drive.

The scum moved from Dale farm, 3 miles from me.
Guess where a lot of them have set up camp. I'll give you a clue.
A Holocaust plaque was stolen in this town during the week.

Harlow.

Dont be so naive.

Buy a decat, also i took an old cat from my car to the scrap yard it was huge, 4" inlet/exit and they offered me £25, :( if thats all they are worth is it really worth the hassle of stealing?

Peter, Peter, Peter. What we gonna do with you.
So thats another 'No' then. You have not a shred of evidence it was them, but call them 'Pikeys' and blame them anyway. No wonder there is animosity between you and them.
I live on a housing estate in Newark where there has been a travellers camp nearby for many years. Their camp looks immaculate. The only trouble I have ever heard of is the occassional fight between 2 travellers fighting over a horse or something like that. I have heard of far, far, more trouble eminating from the housing estates than the travellers camps. There are cowboy builders around here, but none of the ones I have heard of live on the travellers camp.

To be fair they're not the only ones up to it:

"Kestutis Pielikis (26), formerly of 59 Meadow Avenue, Whitebrook, Whiterock Hill, Wexford, was charged with theft from Motor Salvage Ireland, Drumgoold, on July 25 last.

Gardaí found him in possession of 25 catalytic converters at 11 p.m. on the night in question."

Its going on everywhere if you have sufficient numbers of catalytic convertors you can drop them directly to the recycler and get a much higher price.

In UK they're trying to bring in legislation to make it illegal to make cash payments for scrap in an effort to curb the thefts.

The last time I was dropping of old car batteries for the family the guys ahead of me were collecting a cheque for €750 for the 'scrap' shiny new copper cylinders and full lengths of shiny new copper pipes which had been roughly folder in three so I don't know how much of a difference that legislation will make.

Hi,

Apologies for the shameless plug by posting, but I noticed that we were mentioned on the forum - thank you to the OP for this.

Just wanted to let you guys know that we have bespoke fitment solutions for the Ducato that no longer use the steel cables and use security specification boron alloy chain instead for extra security (please see attached picture).

However, I would be surprised if you managed to cut the cables with pliers, as they take a considerable amount of pressure to cut :)

Along with the solution to prevent easy removal of the catalytic converter, we supply a marking and registration system which makes the CAT traceable back to the vehicle / owner. The Police love this as it pretty much guarantees a conviction.

If anyone would like further information on the solutions or to purchase one, I will happily offer a 10% discount off the retail price (usually £125.40 inc VAT & Delivery) if you quote code FiatForum2014.

Cheers,
