Hi there,

recently a bad squealing noise has started coming from the left hand side (as your looking into the engine bay) of my engine when its running. I think it´s coming from this belt (in photo). I remember this happening before when it´s wet, but now it´s much worse and sounds really like rubber against rubber when I´m turning sometimes, and it sounds like it´s slipping on take off sometimes. The timing belt only has 40k kilometers, so I guess that´s ok. Is this the belt for the water pump? Power steering? Any ideas?

The timing belt cover is just to the right in the photograph.

Cheers

PS. it´s a 1993 2.5 TDI ducato coachbuilt motorhome, 140K kilometers on the clock.

cheers

Ok, it is the alternator belt. It looks ok though, but it is a little bit loose, and it is flapping a lot when running. I might just replace it anyway.

has anyone changed their alternator belt on a 2.5 TDI 1993?

cheers

I tightened this up, by loosening the bracket mount from the top, and getting underneath to tighten the pivot mount, then using a large socket wrench wedging the alternator into a tighter position, and tightening the nuts.
MUCH less squeaking now.

problem seems to be solved (y)
