2000 (w reg) 1.9 TD camper van. Recently had the box rebuilt as it was getting a bit rough, though still functioning ok, cost almost a thousand pounds to get done.
Now sat on a campsite on Normandy after realising that the oil has drained out of the box on out journey from Manchester.........
Can't really tell where the oil has leaked from as it's been blown around by the air currents under the van..
Anyone got any suggestions, as Europe Assist, our breakdown cover people say they can't get it booked into a garage until the 26 th August I.e. Ten days time and we are due back on the ferry on 30th!!

Welcome to the Ducato gearbox club. Try looking at the speedo cable drive, the plastic gear wears allowing it to push up and leak oil. i had this on my 1.9TD camper. Did the speedo needle waver or tick prior to this? If it is this then it is easy to replace. If not then back to plan A. Still wrestling with my gearbox which was rebuilt and failed four times in the 1000 miles following. All covered by the garage who were excellent but just as frustrated as I was. Does anyone still do a full recon box for these vans?

We couldn't wait till the 26th August for a French garage to look at it so I cleaned all the oil away from under the box then left it for a day to see if any new oil appeared. Turned out that the fifth gear cover had not been sealed properly after the expensive gearbox rebuild! So I purchased gear oil, loctite, a 13 mm socket and bar, a drain plug tool and a washing up bowl ( she wouldn't let me use the one out of the van's kitchen ) and a few other bits and bobs and sorted it myself. There was still just over a litre of oil in it, but even so, second gear has suffered a bit and is now rather crunchy to get into.
Main thing is that we are back on the French roads continuing with the holiday, just hope it holds out till we get back to Manchester and the gearbox rebuilders, who have obviously said that they will sort it out again.

Sorry, I didn't get it. If the the speedo needle wavered or ticked and then there was a leak around speedo cable, in this case what needs to be replaced ?
