As promised next time I had to take the Air cleaner assembly off so I could change the fuel filter I would to take a photo of the location of the Gearbox Breather & also the Reversing light switch which was how on closer examination I found the odd looking bleed "nipple" on the clutch slave cylinder as I was preparing to change the brake fluid I would also do the clutch as well.
Anyway see the attached pictures for the locations of these two methods of filling the gearbox. If you remove the complete air cleaner assembly & push the large outlet hose coming from the base of air cleaner assemby to one side you will see the clutch slave cyinder directly below that & towards the rear as per the pictures you can see the locations of the Breather & Reverse Switch - which are quite close together
Hope this helps someone who is looking to refill their gearbox.
Cheers (y)

hi I have a 2003 2.8jtd I could not find either the switch or the breather so filled mine through the speedo take off point easy one bolt and it pops out big hole to refill

I had the same problem, which was effecting the factory fitted reversing lights, additional reversing lights and the Back Watch Sonar. Changed the reversing light switch and problem solved. Bit of a pain to install. But thanks for the info on this site and pictures.

Grateful thanks to FreeSpirit for posting the picture of the gearbox breather.

I had previously butchered the airfilter off it's mounts so found it easy to get to the breather, pop the cover off, and fill up using a small funnel (didn't want to chance removing speedometer sensor)

Only annoyance was finding that the gearbox had already been topped up to 2.7 litres by the previous owner:cry:

Hi
Sorry can't supply a picture as we have since sold the vehicle, but it is located on the R/H side of the final drive housing on the back of the gearbox. So you have to climb under the vehicle to see it, just remove the electrical connection & as stated it is held in by a 10mm bolt (with a washer), but be careful that the transducer pinion doesn't drop into the final drive when removing it as any sudden movement can let it drop into the box!
When I checked the level in ours it was full, just below the top of the hole, attached is a Pic of the Transducer
Cheers
