Afternoon all, I am currently looking at buying a van and so far have come across a few transporters until today. The ducato I seen and drove today is a 2.5 1996 mode with 158k (Km), could anyone shed some light on this model please. I drove it earlier and the clutch seemed low and gearbox a little stiff(but then all I have ever had is cars)
The windscreen wipers were a little confused with themselves also :)
I am after a van to convert into a place to sleep for a few nights. Bascally a camper, possibly tow a car trailer also.?
I have found that forums are great for advice so I am here for some help and will end up being on here more often depending on I the van is worth buying.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Matt

The height of the clutch pedal (and therefore the biting point) can, and should, be adjusted on the outer cable so that the clutch pedal is level with the brake pedal.

There are stated tolerances in the workshop manual for this, but until this has been done is is difficult to judge if the clutch is nearly worn out.

Obviously you can't do this on a van you're just looking at, but if it's out of adjustment take it as a sign(n)

If it's a Mk 2 (rounded cab) this gears shouldn't be stiff, OTOH most motorhomes won't have got to that mileage and most commercial van will have been scrapped, so difficult to get any comparisons.

These boxes can be fragile they need to be well filled with oil the recommend refill is more than at the factory to ensure proper lubrication og the 5th gear. Some of the older boxes were subject to water ingress which ruined the boxes. If you're not sure about it I'd walk away, plenty more fish in the sea.
