Good Morning

I have tried to follow the threads on 'How to identify your engine' but I am not having any luck. can anyone please point me in the right direction? I simply need to indentify once and for all my engine make and type.

Data: Fiat Ducato 2.8cc with 5 speed manual gearbox on a 2001 (51) registration plate. Vin Number ZFA230000S952093F. Engine number 3137437.

At the moment I am not sure if it is a Fiat or Iveco Engine and if it is a JTD or IJTD or JTDI

The body is a Bessacarr Motorhome E745

Thanks in advance for any hep received.

Dave B

ePER (available from the Forum top line) will give you the info if you enter the VIN number.

Would have done it for you, but it doesn't like the number you've quoted - I should check it again.

Hello Hugh

Thanks for the reply, I have double checked the Vin number and it is correct as in the V5C> Would you have any other suggestions.

Regards

Its not guaranteed to be wrong, but none of the versions of ePer I can get hold of (Including via this forum) recognise that VIN number. The Ducato I've just p-exed had the wrong VIN no on the V5C, so worth checking the vehicle for the number. (under a plastic flap in the drivers or passengers footwell I think).

Anyway, given what you've posted, odds are it's the 2.8 idTD Sofim engine, used on both Fiat and Iveco in differing levels of tune.

I'm guessing that your eyesight isn't great and instead of ZFA230000S952093F it should be ZFA23000005952093

a seach on eper turns up m8, m9 engine only difference is addition of egr afaik

Since use of that vin brings up the quoted engine number, I'm inclined to agree :)

Good work Corkman.

Heading for vehicle shows M8 version (diagrams are M8/M9) which means 2.8 idTD without EGR. (Engine type 8140.43 if you can find a manual to reference)

Good work Corkman.

:) I used to have to read 17 digit serial numbers all day in a previous job, the same serial number would be transcribed onto multiple labels by different people I got pretty used to deciphering mistakes.

At one time I could hold about 7 17 digit random alphanumeric codes in my head now I can hardly remember the wifes phone number.

Hello Hugh and Corkman

Thanks for your efforts, much appreciated. Tried the extra zero and it came up with the information which included the engine number as indicated on my V5C.

I now know it's a Fiat engine idTD 2800cc.

Once again thanks very much.
