Technical 2001 Ducato 2.8 JTD - OBD II socket?

I have a 2001 2.8JTD based motorhome and am considering buying a Scangauge. I cannot see an obviously accessible OBD II socket in the cab. Is the vehicle compatible with the Scangauge and, if so, where is the OBD II socket?

It is not compatible with Scangauge. That requires ODB II and the 2.8JTD is an earlier version - nothing much will work: my experience.

Yeah with obd II all you'll get is rpm if you're and I think the conversion factor for that is wrong too.

There is a 3 pin connector near the air filter housing for connecting to a laptop using an ELM327 interface. But don't bother, as PeterM states it's pretty much a waste of time, I spent ages downloading and trying different software packages but even though I got the ecu and laptop talking to each other they didn't have much to say!

The first of the JTD models aren't obd2, if it doesn't have the connector it isn't obd2.

My 2006 2.8JTD has the connector but the socket is NOT OBD II.

BTW. I was able to get km/hr to work - it was two times too slow or fast (I forget which) - by programming one of the definable outputs of the Scangauge, but nothing else made sense.

I use a Hanatech, and it reads all the main data on the 2001/02 Ducs with the 2.8JTD. Use OBD11 plug, make up a fly lead, connecting pin 16 to pos, 4 or 5 to grnd (bk/v in 2p plug), and 7 to white/red in 2 pin test plug by ecu.

I've got a 2001(ish) engine/chassis on my 2.8 JTD 2002 Hymer.

When I had diagnostic problems some years back independent garages were unable to read it.
The Fiat main dealers managed eventually after calling in Fiat Technical Services who told them their diagnostic kit had a missing adapter!

So looking on eBay I see, for example:

I assume that the red and black clip on leads are to connect to the battery (or other power source) and the plug brings out the data pin from the two pins in the Fiat connector (as described up thread).

So assuming that this adapter brings out power and a data pin to the OBD 2 socket, which diagnostic kit will read it?

This thread is a couple or so years old now so I am wondering if anyone has used this type of adapter, and if so what kit it works with.

It would be very nice to be able to bring data such as fuel consumption out to a PC via ODB 2 and a USB diagnostic adapter but I haven't seen a lot of enthusiastic postings about the budget Chinese offerings.

As a minimum it would be nice to read diagnostic codes whilst on the road, especially on longer trips abroad.

Using the above 3-Pin to OBD2 adaptor I have had some useful results with the following:

1) "Launch x431 Creader VIII" unit (aka crp123 I believe)

It took a while to get it to talk to my 2001 Peugeot Boxer 2.8HDI though, eventually identifying the ECU as a Citroen Relay.

I tested a few minor sensor faults by unplugging them and it reported them correctly.

2) I was also able to use a couple of Cheap £10-£15 OBD2 readers from Ebay, one of which was able to turn off the MIL Light (but nothing else), and the other could do nothing.

I'll document all this properly when I have time.
