Hello all,

I'm hoping for some advice, I have a 2005 2.3JTD Ducato based motorhome having done around 16000 miles, it is almost due for its 5 year service and the dealer tells me it has to have the timing belt replaced at 5 years, but checking in the Service & Warranty Booklet for converted vehicles it appears to conflict itself? In the "Low Mileage Annual Service" section it says replace at 5 years, But in the "Ducato Maintenance Program 18000 Miles Service Intervals" it says replace at 72000 miles only on the 2.3JTD?

The Fiat dealer tells me its around £500 to replace the timing belt plus over £300 for the 5 year service. So as you may imagine I dont want to have to pay for something I dont need yet.

If anyone can advise I would be most thankful.

Simon

Hi unless your motor has to be done at a fiat dealership i would definately have a new belt kit put on and a service but at a normal reliable garage,£300 is way over the top for a service.good luck

In my owners manual it says (2.3Ltr) replace every 240,000k or 48 months, if it is now 5 years old regardless of the mileage I would be changing it as if it breaks the cost will be a lot more to repair the damage.
Our 2.8 JTD (replace @ 120,000) was 6 years old & done 43,000k but I replaced it because of the time factor & my peace of mine & I did the rollers as well as the Belt & all seemed to be in excellent condition when removed.
But I have also read other people who have low mileage vehicles & either one or both the rollers were on the way out (which will cause belt failure) when finally done or the belt has broken by itself.
Cheers

Hi Simon, I have same base vehicle and have the same consideration when to change timing belt. Im not sure where you are based but im aware that a motorhome specialist does it for £199 (not sure if inc or ex vat). They are based in Lancaster though, so im not sure if its in your local area. If you want their link send me a pm
