I have a 1996 Ducato that is scratching when changing gears. I suspect that this is because of to little transmission oil or oil of wrong type and plan to change it.

My car is a FIAT DUCATO 14 2.5 D 230BDMFB with engine code 8140.67
The gearbox is a 5 gear manual.

What type of oil should I use and how much?

Is there something like a Hynes manual or something similar for theese cars?

Re: What transmission Oil tro use?

As a workshop manual for the 230 model are ?? - the closest you will get is the 244 model with the 2.0 petrol 2.2,2.3 & 2.8 JTD engines. For that model the oil used is as Dave has said above & the quantity as stated by Fiat is 2.0 litres but it is recommended that 2.7 litres is used.
This "extra" is to minimise the risk of the fifth gear failure through running out of oil in its external gearbox casing from the main gearset & is also recommended by the Fiat dealers out here. Your model I think is included in this.
You have to drain the box & fill with the correct quantity as there is no level plug. This is either through the reversing light switch, breather or the speedo transducer hole. There are previous posts on the location of these including a link in one of my posts to pictures of Garrys fifth gear step by step replacement - see pictures on Garrys http://picasaweb.google.com/ggrigg/FiatDucatoBasedMotorhomeGearboxRepair# Garrys model is I think the same as yours as our 03 2.8 JTD has a different shaped fifth gear housing & gearbox casing.
There is a 230 workshop manual on CD available from the Fiat technical website @ 75 Euro but I think you might have to be a Garage/Fiat dealer to purchase it.
A 244 eLearn WSM ISO image compressed in a RAR file is in the Forum downloads > handbooks/manuals section.
Cheers

@Dave and FreeSpirit: Thanks a lot!

Re: What transmission Oil tro use?

It seems that Tutela oil isnt avaliable here in Norway.

From what I could fint the TUTELA ZC 75 SYNTH has theese specs:
SAE 75W-80
API GL-5

I find it hard to find a transmission oil with those exact specs. Most transmission oils I can find here locally is SAE 75W-90. Will those do?

I have a good discount on Mobil Oil. Do this oil seem like a usable alternative?:Mobilube 1 SHC 75W-90 • API GL-4/GL-5/MT-1

Just had a look in my handbook (Ducato 2.8 JTD 2006) and found these specs which differ from the above.

Of course the handbook is 4 years out of date so is it possible that Fiat have updated the gear oil specs?

SAE 75w - 85

API GL-4

Fiat 9.5550

Tutela Car Matryx
