My Dad’s Fiat Ducato Motorhome cut out recently, after about 5/10 mins it started again and ran for a few miles, this happened several times with decreasing time between cutting out. It now starts and runs fine but if you turn off the engine and try to restart it wont, wait and hour or so and try again and it starts first time. My Dad’s mechanic can’t work out what is wrong, so hoping someone might be able to assist.

What year, mileage, engine size.

It's a 1998 (R reg), 2.5 Litre Diesel and it's done about 71,000 miles.

Might well be worth checking to see if there is an air leak on the fuel line

Stop solenoid or immobiliser solenoid, dropping out when hot, then pulling back in when cooled down maybe. Never had it on a car or van, but I've had it once on a similar fuel pump.

Could check with a big can of plumbing freezer spray I suppose.
