I have a 2004 2.3JTD motorhome with 20K on the clock. It runs well and burns no oil to mention but when warm and sitting at traffic lights or similar on driving off I get a cloud of blue smoke from the exhaust. I've had the van to several local garages but none will commit themselves to saying what it is and take the appropriate action to cure the smoking. On reading other threads on the forum it seems like it could be the turbo so I asked the last garage if they could check out the turbo breathing which they did and didn't find anything definite apart from some back pressure on taking off the oil filler cap. Has anyone any ideas. Is it possible to disconnect the turbo to see if it can be eliminated as a problem.

Hi John. Initially that is what I thought but have been told by several mechanics that the smoke would be more intense at cold and reduce as the engine got hotter and the seals softened in the hot oil. Mine only smokes when its hot.

If egr valve was stuck open you'd have smoke and loss in power, I'm not sure if the earlier 2.3jtd has EGR I'm guessing it does.

I have 2006 2.8 with the exact same problem, can not find any one with the answer.
I,ve had a few ideas but nothing certain,ie...dribbling injector, valve seals etc.
Would like to hear from anyone with solid info please.

Hi, I also have a 2008 2.3jtd, Starts on 3cylinders when cold, and sometimes warm, with severe blue smoke. It is not glow plugs, suspect leaking injector, anyone got any ideas?

Unburnt diesel is white smoke. Blue is oil. Unburnt diesel could be due to bad compression in that cylinder. Cracked, worn, stuck rings, worn bore, valve issues etc. Unburnt diesel also washes away or dilutes the lubricating oil contributing to wear so if you don't have wear you will have if you don't sort it.
If the injector was leaking badly you would have a hard time building up pressure in the rail to start.

But it doesn't do it all the time, it is diesel smoke,i can tell by the smell.
Is it possible one injector is partialy draining?

Hi. Have you had a recent oil change? Was the correct grade oil used?

Are you using cheap supermarket diesel, try B.P or Esso fuel, it can make a lot of difference to smoke and power, it could be as simple as that.

Hi,
As an owner of a 2.3jtd Ducato 2005 which until recently has ran fine I am trying to track down an answer to previous posts regarding smoking.
A number of fellow owners had experienced blue smoke when moving through traffic with no smoking at any other time & no noticeable burning of oil. Ideas of problems with turbo's or valve guide seals had been muted however I have seen nothing categoric. To guess is expensive, so did anyone get to the bottom of the problem?
Thanks

monndrater, I would have asked a different question
Ducato is the beginning of 2008 and has 20tyś not know miles miles, how many times a year is the car fired because it turns out that it does about 5tys year
when he was wynieniany oil in the engine, or palwio not happen in the tank for a period of time, after all the fuel is in the tank and the car does not drive a chemical reaction are separated hydrogen chloride, etc. so it will be a problem with the engine is deputy, rings and injections seized
And not just lakes located in northern smoke appears at the pourable injections at the pocztaku przygazówki, burned oil has a specific smell oil too, I have it in my Peugeot 406 2.0 HDI and do not have time to replace the injectors, the engine will fall when burned a hole in the piston is wymienie the engine in the garage :)
and what do you think

This seems to be a commonly reported problem hereabouts and although lots of people have had their vehicles poked by mechanics no one seems to have come to any real conclusions.

Did you ever find a solution?
