Will the n/s drive shaft from a boxer/relay fit my ducato

Hi folks
This is my first time ever joining a forum so im kind of new to this whole thing but I found the information on this site so helpful and logical that i felt compelled to join,
I have recently purchased a Fiat Ducato minibus and proceeded to convert it into a camper van which I love to bits however from day one of owning it I think my drivers side drive shaft has been on the way out, when I accelerate between 40-55mph the whole van seems to judder also in the lower gears at low speeds I sometimes get a metallic clunking noise coming from underneath where im sitting in the drivers seat and when I lock the steering wheel I get a sort of a clicking noise which sounds as if something is under pressure.
I have had all the wheels balanced and checked for being buckled or out of shape and in any case the judder goes away when I depress the clutch which leads me to believe that the inner part of my drivers side drive shaft is worn beyond repair,
I intend to get a whole new drive shaft from an auto breakers and attempt to replace it myself rather than trying to trick around with the cv joint itself as it looks complicated to do but none of the auto breakers in my area seem to have any Ducato parts in stock,
So my question is will the drive shaft from a Peugot Boxer or Citroen Relay of similar engine size and year Fit in my Ducato which by the way is a 1996 2.5 straight diesel
Any information regarding this would be greatly appreciated and also any hints or tips on replacing a drive shaft on one of these models would be really great as I've only recently started tricking around with engines and cars (inspired by the recession and lack of cash)

thank you in advance

Harryd

I forgot to mention that i suspect i also have a problem with my rear engine mounting would this contribute to or enhance any of the problems im having juddering/clunking clicking of the steering wheel

The rear engine mounting would definitely affect the vehicle in all of these ways. Change that first then see what the van feels like.

Citroen Relay, Fiat Ducato, Peugeot Boxer. A fine example of "badge engineering" They are all the same and all parts are interchangeable.
Keep well,

thanks guys will go down to motor factors tomorrow and order the engine mounting and see how i get on, Ducatos seem to be a rare commodity in ireland well around my local area of navan anyway and the boxers and relays seem to be a lot more prolific so is nice to know that all the parts are interchangeable and will make sourcing of parts a lot easier for me many thanks guys very helpfull

Here's an explanation of which "Sevel" vans are which and their Fiat/Peugeot/Citroen equivalents.

Re: Will the n/s drive shaft from a boxer/relay fit my ducato

so ive just fitted a new engine mount and while the old one was definitely worn and had had its day it still hasn't solved the problem im sick, was really hoping that this would cure it so now i reckon i have to replace the drivers side driveshaft which i really am not lookin forward to doing because im not that experienced with engines but suppose ill have to give it a go, any other thoughts on what could be causing these problems would be much appreciated

I also had problemwith what looked like wheel problems so after visiting four garages and getting wheels balanced /changed around it finaly ended up it was the nearside driveshaft. When it was taken out there did not appear anything wrong but changed it never the less . Reconditioned one was about 120 plus 1 1/2 labour.
