Technical Relay for horn

Does anyone know where I can obtain a horn relay (Part No 46520411) on line for my motorhome. It's a 2006 Ducato JTD 2.8.

Are you sure it's the relay?

I'm on horn number 4 on my 2003 Ducato.

Diagphrams fail due to water spray under N/S bumper where horn is located!

Horn will have complete circuit on a multimeter even if diagphram failed.

Not 100% sure but had the horn repaired last year and was told it was the relay. Thought I would change the relay just to eliminate it as it is easier to get to than the horn itself. Tested the fuse and that was in tact.

I would say horn is easier than the relay - see below!!


Just follow the instructions in your user manual for changing a headlight bulb. 4 screws to remove the decorative radiator grille, and two 10mm bolts to remove the Nearside Headlamp cluster. Horn is just underneath the light cluster. The same 10mm spanner/socket will undo the horn bracket easily!!

I can't understand why everybody scrapes their knuckles doing the horn from underneath :bang::bang::bang:.

You have to take out the headlamp cluster out to replace a bulb anyway, you don't mess up any adjustment to the headlamps either it makes it a 10 minute job tops! The hardest bit is the 4 screws maybe a bit stuck in the top of the decorative radiator grille, please don't use a power driver, just some WD-40 to release them! You need quite a large stout Phillips driver for them!!


I will post up an HOW2 sometime showing how easy it is!

I am surprised your horn was repairable. The most common horns marketed in the UK by RING are made by FIAMM in Italy, who make the original horn! The diagphrams go on them and for £10-12, I wouldn't bother repairing TBH!

I'm not sure where the relay is??? But I would suspect a horn, given the fact I'm on Number 4!!!! at 147,000 miles!

Thanks for that John. I'll try that all though I have not had to change a bulb yet but it sounds easy enough. By the way the horn wasn't repaired previously I was told by the Fiat dealer that it was the relay that had gone.

John is right about the horns, ours is a 2003 model with 43K on it & are now on the 4th horn - 2 replaced under warranty & the last 2 are Marine horns from a boat shop, but even one of them went after 18 months. I am going to relocate the 4th horn into the engine bay somewhere for better protection & hopefully a longer life!!
PS the headlamp is retained by 2 bolts & a "clipin" ball socket on the outer side, can be levered out from underneath but ensure that the plastic lugs that retain the ball are in their correct place when reinstalling the headlamp

Thanks freespirit, forgot to mention the clipin ball socket! this is on the indicator side of the lamp cluster - needs a bit of a twist and a tug!

Hi John,

No The horn does not work. Not a peep. Just a thought when I tried to start the engine last time I used the van the battery was flat. This was after about a month of standing idle. Never had a problem like that before and I have left it a lot longer than that. What I am getting at is if the horn is faulty could it drain the battery as it was when I got the van started I noticed the horn wasn't working. It was definately working when I previously used it.

The only way I would test for this is removing the horn and putting a voltage tester on the spade terminals. If you get a voltage, something is suspect andd could be draining your battery.

If you don't get a voltage but a helper operates the horn on the steering wheel whilst you are holding the meter on the spade terminals, then i would assume your problems lise further up the line (relay, switch on the steering wheel etc). If you do get a voltage when operated, go buy yourself a new horn.

Thanks to everybody for their help with this one. Checked the horn and found it full of water. Changed it and now works perfect. wasn't the relay after all. Thanks John followed your instructions made it very easy.
