hi, im new to this forum, i have recently purchased a ducato 2.0 jtd motorhome which is very difficult to start when hot. the engine starts fine when cold but once hot after about 5 miles if i turn off the engine it will start ok immeadiatly but if i wait 5mins it is difficult to start. engine cranks over but will not fire. if i wait 10-20 mins it is nearly imposible to start. reading this forum i found the rpm sensor is a possible cause. i have replaced this but problem remains. once the engine is cool again it starts fine, i have had a diagnostic check which shows no faults, my next thought is the cam sensor any advice would be greatly aprietiated. my van is a 2003 with only 11000 miles

Hi. Had the same problem on a diesel Astra turned out to be the battery.
Apparently when the engine is cold it turns over quicker and will start, but once hot and everything is tight the battery needs to supply more amps to turn the engine over fast enough to fire.
Take it to a tyre shop and ask to have a drop test on the battery, if the amps drop you have your answer, the test should be free.
Good luck.

thanks cris1117 i have just tried my van when hot with jump leads linked to another vehicle and it started a lot easier, had my battery tested and guy at shop said not much wrong with that, im still going to try a new battery, il keep you posted

new battery fitted.[bigger and more powerful.750 cranking amps instead of 580] engine still very difficult to start when hot.

fixed at last, another diagnostic showed nothing guy at garage suggested an injector leak back test which showed 1 faulty injector replacaed this and vehicle now fine. Unusual for injectors to fail at this mileage?
