Quick question - first of many...

I have a coachbuilt motorhome with the above engine. Reverse light stopped working. If I check the voltage across the light fitting I have 12v, but this drops to zero when the bulb is plugged back in. To me this shows a bad connection somewhere as the meter only draws a tiny current, unlike the lamp.

Wiring underneath checks OK as far as I can see, so it leads me to think that there may be a bad connection at source - the switch on the gearbox. This seems to be a problem on the 2.8JTD so I thought I would ask.

1) any ideas where the reverse light switch is, and can I get to it easily?
2) would that be the likely problem?

Thanks in advance
David

Dave,
Having looked at the manual, the reverse light swich is on the top of the gearbox. I would assume somewhere under/behind the air fliter. Its difficult to picture from the drawings.
The air filter is not too difficult to remove, simply undo the top and bottom hoses conecting the filter to the front scuttle and the turbo. Remove the top, remove the element you and will see 3 nuts holding the filter in place.

As to failure of this unit I have no idea of its reliabilty rate.

Stewart

Thanks again - I think I found it. Does it require a deep 22mm socket like the 2.8JTD? I'm assuming so but would like to check. Cheers!

Thanks - now I'm depressed! It looks like a reasonably clear way in if I remove the air filter assembly. Any tips welcome before I really screw this up....

It might just be crud on the connector - certainly will try wiggling it a bit first to see if that works

Thanks
