Picked it up yesterday - broke down yesterday! Apparently the key code 1234 on the dashboard was the problem. I have read other forums and this happens - something to do with an aerial. Upshot is that the dealer is removing the immobilser - they said something about the oil pump (at this point I glazed over!!). Is this right?

Also I couldn't open the bonnet as the pull lever was very stiff. The mechanic could do it! I'm a big bloke and was scared I might break the pull lever - is this a common problem?

Bonnet catch is stiff on mine don't know about your other probs.

The injector pump has a fuel cut-off soleniod which is 'activated' in some magical way by the immobiliser aerial. On my MH a previous owner has had this bypassed so solenoid is fed directly from the ignition controlled supply, presumably this is what your dealer is going to do.

In my case a aftermarket alarm/immobilser was fitted to restore the security aspect.

I could write reams on the bonnet issue; I have even fitted a new release cable. I've now concluded that the problem wasn't due to the stiffness of the pull lever or cable but that the metal loop on the bonnet which goes into the catch was mis-aligned and sticking in the jaws of the catch & therefore the spring wasn't able to push the bonnet out of the catch.

Since centralising the loop I've had no more problems, touch wood, but still have a short length of wire attached to the mechanism as an emergency release!

Hi Andrew,

I am currently looking at a 1998 Ducato MH.

What engine do you have ?

This one has the 2.5 diesel. Im hoping to use it to tow my boat which weighs approx 1200 Kgs

Regards.

I have the 2.5TDI on a Swift Royale. It has a tow bar but I don't tow, but the engine feels as if it would tow a tank!!
