Hi,

I'm a bit of a novice, but basically the horn on my 2000 Ducato 14 van has stopped working. I have changed the fuse as it was broke but this made no difference. I'm not sure where next to start, I suppose the horn could be broke - but don't know how to test it, or possibly there is something on the steering wheel that has lost a connection.

I would like to be able to test the horn independently to eliminate if it is at fault but do not know how to. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Get yourself a cheap multimeter, set to low volts, 20v DC and pull the two wires from the horn near the headlamp, behind the grille, connect the multimeter, and get comeone to press the horn, you should get a 12volt reading on one of the wires, the other goes to earth, if not it's not getting power to the horn, you can lever the horn push out carefully from the steering wheel, it pull upwards and check there too, one wire is 12 volt, the other goes to the horn, check it's making a connection there too. Anyway, a new horn from a car accessory shop should be about a tenner, you don't have to go to FIAT to but one specific, or get one from a car breakers for a fiver.

Mine don't work either, despite it just passed MOT, It makes me a less agggressive and more careful driver, I think:)

We had to have a replacement on ours to. Somebody told me that where they are situated behind the front bumper is particularly susceptible to water spray.

I own a 2004 model and the horn is behind the passenger side head light !! so cheap i brought another one and fitted it myself, bit of a bugger to get to thou !!!

Not if you take out the LH side headlamp unit, which believe me, you have to do to change a bulb in the unit anyway!

The horn is easily accessible then. 2 minutes work save lots of faffing around!

hi
it may not be the horn. i have a 2001 ducator motorhome, horn stopped working, i kept my hand pressed on the horn and turned the wheel in all directions, i could occassionaly get a beep.

it dismantled the steering wheel (took off the cover plastic cover on wheel), inside there are brass plates with 2 contact wires. you have to remove this, then remove the steering wheel (one nut), then under here there are two brass contact plates that are like clips, these shoudl make contact with the brass plate on the underside of the plastic cover you took off, on mine the little contact plates under the steering wheel were not making contact, i just bent them up a little until i could see they lined up with the underside contact plate and hey presto :)

might not be your problem.

try getting a couple of wires, strap them to the battery and into the back of the horn and see if the horn blows, if it does and fuses are ok i suspect its the contact plates.

good luck.

Cheers
