hi, i have a 2007 160 multijet with a slipping clutch, it started slipping at 11000 miles after average use with it laden close to max most of the time, however my fiat dealer say they will only change it under warranty if they find anything wrong with it and it could be down to how its driven! they would have to strip it down anyway to inspect, and if nothing is actually broken its about 750-800 quid to put back on road with a new clutch! so , i'm still driving it and now clocked up 16000 miles but its getting really bad and im worried about ruining the flywheel, any ideas anyone??

YEP I HAVE just noticed mine slips around 1500rpm to 3000rp in high gears that is 4th 5th and 6th gear, so another words if im changing gears from 1st to 2nd to 3rd then into 4th and my speed is around 80km/h and then im crusing along the freeway and changing into 5th and driving around 80km/h and then i decide to increase speed upto 100km/h if i stay in 5th and accelerate upto 100 with my foot all the way down on the gas i found that it slips between 2000rpm and 3000rpm it basicly revs as its going no where and then catches on and moves normal. can anyone explain why this happens?

very similar to mine, starts slipping at 2000 rpm and instantly revs to 3000rpm and eventually it catches up then doesn't slip above 3000, mainly noticible in 3rd 4th and 5th gear. mines in the fiat garage at the mo, they are trying to get out of replacing it under warranty, even told me it was fine and theres nothing wrong with it!! i'l post the outcome as i hear it... how many miles has yours covered and whats it used for?

What you guys are describing here is similar to the way our 2004 2.8JTD began behaving at about 102,000 miles. Diagnosis on our one was (wait for it) worn and slipping clutch. We've had it replaced and obviously given the mileage it was totally worn out. We original thought it was our Variable Vane turbo giving trouble!

With respect, you guys have got a lot of warranty on you new 160's so I would contact and keep pestering Fiat. You don't have variable vane turbos on the 160's so it does sound like clutch issue. Clutch replacement time is quoted at about 6 hours labour so I can understand but don't agree with fiats reluctance to do something!

Remember that this engine is also used in Iveco Daily 3.0 HPT so if there are any Iveco owners forums, they may also flag up any issues like this.;)

fiat eventually changed clutch but it was a fight all the way, now covered 28000mi only other problems are front brakes v prone to overheating, needs third set of disks now due to cracking, and the handbrake is awful!
good ol' fiat! (y)

hi , i have just bought a fiat ducato 160 and it is on 60,000 miles , my clutch slips in 3rd 4th gear , will fiat warranty this as it is still in warranty for another 3 months

Is it possible the oil could have been overfilled, causing some oil to get through into the clutch?
