General Ducato (2003) - Fan heater not blowing air

Hey Corky 8 - thanks for the comment.

You know, I was quite enjoying my lesson in electrical fault diagnosis. I almost wish I hadn't found the fault quite so soon... almost!

Well, it's all back together now and I've got hot air blasting out of every orifice. Beautiful.

All the best for '08!

I did stumble across a posting recently mentioning a recall for the fan heater wiring loom (but not sure if that was just for new models).

Old (230) model ;)

Thanks again for your assistance, Moderator T14086.

....extremely handy & quick in locating faults & you can power up components,in your case you could of powered up fan insteard of removing it etc....very very useful, just stay away from airbags though!

Happy to year to you all:D

I have much the same problem and it's been very useful to follow this thread through. However I can't figure out how to dismantle the central dash area where the heater controls are fixed. I have removed the left and right lower dash panels and can remove the radio and loosen the upper panel with the foglight and emergency flasher switches are but how to get at the heater controls?

I know this is an old thread so I hope someone will spot this post!

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Mike,

Are you sure you've located all the screws?

I recall quite a few hidden ones... under the gearstick, flask holder, in the ashtray and in the gap below your radio (I remember those being a bit fiddly).

Hi, the fan speed control switches burn out regularly on these. Pull the radio panel up, pull centre dash panel out, remove htr knob, undo 2 phillips head screws, switch assy will just fit out past the heater cables. I have rebuilt the switches but its quite fiddly, get a new one if you can.

Good luck. I hope your replacement lasts longer than mine (about a month!).

Well, having spent most of this morning on the job, I'm now stumped. I have had the centre dash off and removed the switch which seems OK by my multimeter. There is no +12v on any of the connections with the ignition switched on. Ditto at fan connection and resistor. The fan fuse in the glove box is OK with 12v on both sides of it, interestingly even when the ignition is off. The handbook refers to fuses for the fan/heater under the bonnet on the RHS. I found these and all are intact. Can anyone help?

I failed to mention earlier that I have a slightly earlier Ducato (2001) embedded in a Hymer B series motorhome. It has aircon in the heater assy. The aircon switch is similarly dead.

Cheers,

Mike

Fixed it! Tracing the wires got me to a different fuse in the set in the glove box. The fourth from the left is indicated on the lid as nothing but in my case has been used for the heater fan. Although I haven't traced it I now wonder what the last fuse from the left (which the legend on the lid says is the heater fan) is.

Anyway thanks to all mostly for the encouragement to get on with it.

Cheers,

Mike

Nice one, Mike. I love a happy ending. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Happy camping! :)
