I have recently purchased a 2003 Fiat 2.8jtd based Hymer with 12k miles. The engine runs well and pulls without problems but when the engine is at around 2100 rpm and pulling hard up an incline such as on a long motorway slope, as the accelerator approached 3/4 fully down, the engine (and I assume that it is the turbo) starts to squeal and sounds just as if the alternator belt is slipping or a water pump bearing is failing. If the situation is allowed to persist the dash warning light showing a turbo symbol lights up briefly until the accelerator is relaxed. If the accelerator is depressed hard to the floor the squeal is passed through and subsides but can reappear if the load increases.
I have adjusted and checked all of the obvious things and have tightened the alternator drive blet but to no avail, anyone experienced a similar situation?

I have the same problem,my vans cambelt recently snapped and has been repaired .This noise occurs when the turbo is under light load then gets louder with more boost.I have had the turbo reconditioned but it still makes the same noise:confused: ,its very annoying !:bang: Let me know how you get on,i will also try wd40.

i think in have found the problem of the squeal ! Have a good look at all your gaskets around the manifold,i had another mechanic look at my van and he found that when i revved the engine and made the turbo spin up he could see diesel fumes escaping from the inlet/outlet manifold making it squeal!
(y)
All it now needs is a new set of gaskets and all my fingers crossed;)
and the mechanic to get his finger outta his a**e.
The van has been at this garage now for 12 weeks ,do you think i have the patience of a saint or do i have a case for the Trading Standards??
I have lost so much money (& hair!) over this van and the prat fixing it!
I have actually bought another van to keep myself going otherwise i would have been missing mortgage payments and losing work because of him!:bang: :bang: :bang:

whitevanmen,

On your van, does the injector warning light also come on with load and the increasing squealing noise? Please let us know if the gasket replacement cures the problem (when your repair man finally gets his **** finger out).

Hi
There are no lights warning of injection problems ,but i was also told by another mechanic that no4 injector wasn't seated properly and was losing compression. The di**head who's been working on it has promised me the van will be done this weekend.I'm not holding my breath!

Will let you know what happens.

Whitevanmen,
Still keep us posted on the final outcome, I still have not sorted the squeal on my van, just too busy at moment to play with it but I need to sort it for peace of mind.

How's your Ducato?
At last mine is back on the road, just need the tappets resetting and it's up for sale:(
The new and trusted mechanic :worship: assigned for the job this time has replaced all inlet/outlet gaskets.Reseated all injectors, secured all the pipes to the fuel connections.
The turbo does no have the whoosh noise any more , by replacing the gaskets it has cured and stopped all escaping boost.(y)
