Selinia 10w-40 is the stuff Fiat will supply you if you ask them for oil for your engine.

I personally have topped up the Doblo about a month ago with a tad of Castrol GTD Magnatec (you know the damn expensive stuff) but luckily I didn't have to go out and buy a new one (helps when you got diesel vans in the family). Anyway, enough babbling, I also knew I had an oil change coming up just a few days ago so it didn't really bother me.

Personally, I'm led to believe that as long as you use good quality stuff and it's the right viscosity you should be ok :)

i've been recommended selinia by a lot of poeple although i normally use halfords fully synthetic 5-40 or mobile 1, 0-40 in my petrol cars, currunt car is jtd and has only had selenia (dealer serviced) i was also told not to use castrol in modern engines as its a very old formula

Mrs_G's has been using Valvoline oils. (I'll find out exactly which from the garage that do the servicing).

It has a 'seal conditioner' in it. When the garage first started servicing Mrs_G's van (from about 130,000 miles) they pointed out that there was a slight weep from the crankshaft oil seal. Not enough to justify changing it but worth keeping an eye on. Since using Valvoline engine oil the wee has stopped.

Not a scientific test I know but an indication that the seal conditioner is doing its stuff.

Valvoline are good oils when you can get hold of them!

Not so commonly heard of now because of the advertising of Castrol etc. but then again they don't need to - good oil (y)

Re: Doblo 1.9JTD which oil

Just had another service on Mrs_Gs Doblo (238,512 miles).

The oil I mentioned in my previous post is:

Valvoline MaxLife 10W-40.

The van has been run using this oil since I started using my local independant garage at 120,000 miles (Oct 2005) - 11 services. The garage charge £19.75 for a 5 litre can - whatever isn't used in the service they give to me to use when topping up the oil level.

Re: Doblo 1.9JTD which oil

Despite most peoples worrying I think you will find most reputable oil companies will make compatible oil which does not cause damage to your engine.

I personally use Millers XFD 5W40 Exceeds API CH4 ACEA B3 and B4 specs in my JTD engines. If you're not feeling flush to pay for fully synthetic, there is XFE which is a high-synthetic oil.
