my doblo has been faultless since ive had it, she had been parked up for a week, anyway i got in her today and took her for a drive, when cold she struggled to reach 2300 rpm in 2nd gear then woosh the turbo kicked in ,seemed ok ,then the same (while she was still cold) at a roundabout no power till about 2300 rpm ,anyway after that it was fine , got to my parents house parked up for an hour then got back in same again just the once this time no power till 2300rpm, after that it was fine again plent of power low revs 1st and 2nd gear, after the car was warm tested it about town plenty of power right from low revs in 1st and 2nd gear, any thoughts?

ive been quoted £55 for a 2nd hand one? is this about right?

Funny exactly the same thing with mine has just started. No power at all till its warmed up a bit then kicks in at 2300 rpm.
How hard is it too change the erg?

had it cleaned seems 95% ok and improving , was charged £35 by local garage

she still wasnt totally right so i disconnected the MAF sensor, now its 100%, are new sensors easy to fit and where can i buy one off the net, thanks

Snatch 69,

When I had a similar problem with my 1.9JTD, disconnecting the MAF sensor had the car running well. I thought the MAF sensor was at fault and replaced it to no effect. Only then did I prove that the fault was the EGR valve by blanking off the inlet pipe to the EGR.

When I took the EGR valve apart I found that it was full with carbon which I cleaned out. I was just about to put the thing back when I noticed the valve was being held of its seat by a tiny bit. When I fixed this everything was OK.

Let us know what you find in the end.

Here lies a problem...symptons of faulty air flow meter & EGR are very identical (bad EGR doesn't always mean black smoke) so its often guesswork which can be expensive.Diagnosis using computer eqiupment isn't always 100% unless operator is good at understanding parameters.

Hey T....,

The guy at my garage used the following to help diagnose my EGR valve being stuck open.

Starting from cold the metal pipe that carries the egr gases heated up (using a hend to test) very quickly when the engine was started - much quicker than would be accounted for by heat being conducted along the metal from the manifold/head. Much in the same way that the exhaust manifold gets warm/hot very quickly when compared to the rest of the engine.

I think we've possibly discussed this before but I'm not sure I explained myself all that well.

Wouldn't it be nice if the egr valve had a couple of sensors built in to send the ecu a signal to confirm that it had open/closed as requested by the ecu.

i have had the EGR valve cleaned, they said it was dirty but now OK

That right sure we did,its a good way of doing it,different from my method but if it works then good(y)

The ECU sends a pulse width signal to the EGR so as far as its concerned the EGR is doing 'as its told' but being electro-mechanical its the mechanical part that fails thus ECU doesn't know this.
I suppose they could put a position sensor on the EGR but that would no doubt increase its cost/overall car cost.:(

so anyway is the somewhere on line i can get one and how easy/difficult to fit? oh and thanks for your help so far :)

torx size?

torx size? i have a set 20 25 27 30 , none seem to fit? any ideas?
thanks

Re: torx size?

Are you looking for the torx key size for the sensor head fasteners on the MAF unit? If so I don't think anything readily available will fit. Nothing readily available in my garage anyway!

I cut a slot across the the tops of the fasteners with a dremel and used an ordinary screw driver to remove them. Bosch must have decided that the unit was not going to be "user serviceable" I guess.
