Any suggestions on getting a bit more power without going the jtd route?

If your Doblo is a 1.9 non turbo & you want more power out of it I can only give you three poor solutions.

1. Only use roads that are downhill.
2. Replace accellerator with foot pedals.
3. Get yourself a different model.

The non-turbo cannot be tuned as it is just a bog standard diesel engine & as you will realise if you have one, they are underpowered. So the answer has to be live with it or get rid of it.

I've had mine now for 5 1/2 years & find it OK for town driving & poor for motorway driving & useless for driving around Dorset etc where there are any hills.

Yup

Going to have to find better music to listen to and enjoy the ride.

It seems like there is not much that can be done. In town its ok, its those small hills that become a pain. Otherwise can't complain..

Was hoping to modify the engine management system or air filter...

As Doblo has said you won't squeeze much more power out of the non-turbo Diesel. You can change the air filter, exhaust etc. but only for a few more BHP that you won't even notice...

Spend your money on that sound system and enjoy the ride or get a JTD (y)

Removing the cat might give you an extra 2-3bhp but hardly worth the effort or expense unless you actually need a new exhaust.

Changing the air filter could make a difference. When I changed mine a couple of months ago looking at the amount of dead insects lodged in it I am now convinced it was never changed when I took it in for a service.

More power... Deepest commiserations. The 1.9D has no power (n) Unload it and get a JTD and you'll have POWER like you can only dream about now :D :D :D

Do it  do it  do it

you can map, chip, tune just about any modern engine even some 16yr old as long as their computer controlled fueling, mk1 ut can be chipped

I'll take your word on that Toad but I'll give you a hard question in return.
Do a search on the net & find a company that will do a remap etc for the Doblo.

most companys only advertise performance/hot hatch vehicles a tuning box would prob work if you got in touch with retailer. the only other punto jtd chipped uk had done had diferent ecu to mine but that didn't stop them trying, as of a certain date all cars had to have a obd port so unless a very early model would prob be tuned through this, but as i said jtd is much better option some multis are producing 160+hp and peter said 170 is possible from the punto but cars with this much power are only suitable for race track.
personally i would upgrade the brakes as you can only do 70mph in the uk and thats always been this 1st mod i've done to all my cars from my 45hp uno to a 150bhp 145 mph alfa

You will find all turbo diesel Doblo's are advertised, non of these are what you would call hot-hatch or hot anything, but the non-turbo has nothing to offer except being slow & reliable.

they've got a turbo and the power gains make the company look good, would you call a diesel punto a hot hatch

The point I am trying to make is that you see adverts for remap of a 1.3 70 bhp multijet Doblo engine which is anything but hot but not a remap of the 1.9 63bhp NA diesel engine.

true but what would u advertise a 20bhp gain from a 1.3 or a 5bhp gain from a 1.9, but as everyone has said jtds are the way to go

I agree but getting back to the original question "Any suggestions on getting a bit more power without going the jtd route"?
Which then brings me to my three poor answers
1. Only use roads that are downhill.
2. Replace accellerator with foot pedals.
3. Get yourself a different model.

....maybe you could head down the Wil E Coyote ( genius ) route and stick a rocket in the back...:D :p :D :p :D
