Hi,

I noticed that on all Opel/Vauxhall 1.3 CDTI engines, like the ones in Corsa and Combo Tour/Arizona models, the service interval is set to 30000 miles or 50000 km.
If this is the same engine as Fiat's 1.3 Multijet, why would such a difference exist at all? I've read postings here stating to not compromise on service intervals and have them done rather sooner than later, but this difference is quite a lot. Aren't the engines not so much the same perhaps after all?

Thanks for any information.

Hendrik

What is said on the above linked forum is what I would have said - Fiat are more sensible than Vauxhall and are probably "playing on the safe side" with keeping their oil chages and services more regular!

Diesels are relitavely sensitive engines when it comes to oil so I'd have no hesitation in saying that it's better to have more regular services and cost you more, than to end up putting in a new engine :)

Vauxhall specify longer intervals so they can sell their cars to fleet managers with low servicing costs.

30,000 miles between services?

I don't think I'd like going that far without having some inspection work done on safety items like steering and brakes.

Another possible reason for Vauxhall's 30,000 mile service might be that the oil sump is bigger.
Suzuki also use the 1.3 in their Swift but I am not sure of service intervals.
