Noise on idle diagnosed as incorrect pump timing (ecg).Have been told to take to
main agents for resetting of ecg. Please leave views on this matter.:

Just posted on poss same problem!!

What did the noise sound like ?

Did it dissapear when warm etc!

Mines definatly only happens when cold, at idle when warm and right through no probs.

It happens only on idle, worse when warm than cold as soon as you touch the accelerator its quiet. This is why told it is the esg as only affects the idle mixture. Can maybe traced back to filling with petrol awhile ago although it was drained as soon as poss.It is known to wear diesel pump which is maybe why the mixture needs turning down can only be done at fiat.get back to me :bang:

This is different to your problem Chris.

Sounds like the petrol may have done some damage, and would probably not be down to ECU fault at the petrol would not affect this. I know a friends diesel he filled with petrol, was drained, and months down the road of it running fine he couldn't get it to start run or anything, had to replace fuel pump, and various other bits within the engine that didn't like the petrol!

Other than that, then your electronic idler perhaps isn't working properly thus not idling the engine properly or varying the idle every split second thus making the engine run unevenly. Give us more details on the noises etc :)

cheers guys,

Its not that then probably just cold diesel clatter!!:)

My laguna 2.2dci was a 16 valve unit and didn't seem to have that tappetty!! sound, interested to know if the 1.3 16 valve unit sounds the same.

There's quite a few with 1.3's on here maybe they will be able to tell us... think we beat them home though ;)

The 1.3 is ideal if you want to pull the skin off a small rice pudding :p

just had probs with comp but thankfully back up and running! and just in time i see! as you know i have 85 hp 1.3 multijet;) ;) and you will already know but i feel i need to just give a gentle reminder:D :D my car has the same pulling power as any 1.9 not only will it pull the same it will do it with two extra passengers with better economy but alot more refinement and cheaper car tax and cheaper insurance and is exceptionally quiet on cold start up and even quieter when warm sorry guys but it has to be said:slayer: :slayer: next year i will be towing my folding camper and accessories plus seven passengers! oh and one very large skin off a rice pudding:D :D :D :D

I agree the 1.3 is a good engine, but as with anything you need to look further and realise it's potential... think of a 1.9JTD remapped, very very fast... trouble is handlings a load of crap :( then again drove a punto this morning and it felt very loose and wobbly on the motorway whereas the Doblo feels secure even at high speeds :chin:

Problem may be solved just been to fiat they tested for free and said the bottom
pulley wheel has failed. This wheel is from the crankcase and has a rubber bush that is worn, the ammount of mechanics who have looked at this fault is beyond believe.
all they did was change the tension wheel.Wouldnt mind but suggested this 1 year ago after visiting the alfa forum for faults on jtd engine.Even printed a picture of the said wheel.:D :D

Does anyone have any idea what is causing my noise. I also have a fiat doblo 1.9JTD. I have a tinny rattle on tick over only, every 10 seconds sounds like a ballbearing turning in its cage. Runs perfect, no black smoke. I have removed fan belt and noise stops and no movement or roughness on any of the pullys. Cannot think what it may be and dont want to take to the garage just yet so any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi,could be the bottom(crank) pulley starting to break up, if there's no noise or play in any of the other pulleys and the clutch pulley on the alternator is free, not much left. The pulley is made up of several parts and cushioned with rubber, the rubber perishs and delaminates causing the metal parts of the pulley to touch. With the belt off there is no tension on the pulley to twist it so metal parts don't touch. Check there aren't any bolts loose any where near any of the pulleys, which may vibrate/touch when pulleys turning, hope this helps John.

An update to LIFTEX's reply.
I have changed the crank pully even though it did not look as if it needed changed. No deteriation on the rubber bonding but I went ahead and changed it. Money well spent my Doblo is now back to quiet engine on tick over. Just thought that my experience may be of interest to other Doble owners. Great website and thanks LIFTEX top man. :)
