Mrs_G's Doblo JTDSX is off the road. The clutch thrust bearing would appear to have thrust its last.

Changing between forward gears is difficult and engaging reverse is impossible with the engine running.

Tomorrow the Doblo will be off to my local independant garage to have a new clutch fitted.......... I wonder if Fiat will pay for it under warranty?........ Oh, of course they won't...... them paying for anything under their warranty warrants a mention on the 9 o'clock news.

Oh no not again and so soon :(

You don't think your recent gearbox problems could have possibly brought this on prematurely by adding extra stress to the clutch system?

Let's hope nothing else goes wrong too soon eh (y)

No, its 2 unrelated problems. The gearbox fault will not have stressed the clutch. I think the clutch thrust bearing has simply worn out, not unreasonable at this mileage.

I was quoted something like £665 by a Fiat dealer to supply and fit a new clutch. I'll let you know how much it costs at my local garage.

Update:

Stopped by the garage today to see how things are progressing.

The gearbox is out and everything should be going back together on Friday (We told them not to rush as Mrs_G is using our V70 for her daily run).

Interestingly the friction plate is less than half worn when compared to the new one (Depth of friction material left above the rivet heads) Not bad for nearly 200k miles.

While access is easy the garage will be carrying out preventative maintenance to parts that are normally hard to get to - eg. waxoyling brake lines etc - the sign of a reputable garage doing a fine job for their customers - what a shame most of the motor industry seem to be the complete opposite.

More as it happens.

PS. Did I mention how bad Fiat warranties are?

Hope it's back on the road soon so you can have the Volvo back to play with :p

I'll have to get it on Monday now.... just been asked to take a load of engine parts out to Germany...., oh well there goes the weekend  ........ still my beer stock could do with replenishment!:p :p :p

Mrs_G is a freelance courier... they generally take dodgy packages all over the UK and Europe in unmarked, undercover Doblos ;)

Surely you don't want any German parts anyway PNL :p

Engine parts engine parts :chin:

The last time it was "Tractor Parts" that turned into tanks. Smells dodgy to me.

And is this a good time to admit to working for Revenue & Customs?   (Bwaahhaahhaa!?!?!)

Now I know not to worry. Nobody works there. They're just a bunch of parasites extracting money from good honest self employed business people who generate most of the wealth in this country. The govt then 'pee the money up the wall' on half arsed schemes that provide very little benefit to the ordinary people of this country but makes some of their friends very very rich.

Perhaps I'll go back into the IT industry and sell the govt a non working IT 'solution', late, well over budget with no come back whatsoever!

Rant over.

thinks...

PS. Fait warranties are of a quality this govt would spend millions on. (5h1te!).

Rant over again....

Think of a quiet sandy (believe it or not) beach, the waves lapping against the shore...

There we go all nice and calm again :) then you get a phonecall telling you that everything the garage said they'd do under warranty you now have to pay for cause they couldn't and now have done all the work :D

Only messing ;)

By the way, did you enjoy your trip :)

Yeah it went fine. Self and a friend went together as there were more 'engine parts' than he could fit in his van.

I'd already done a working day before we left so was pleased to grab an hours sleep on the ferry. Had another cat nap halfway there and another on the way back.

We were stopped by Dutch border police for a check on the way back. They were very friendly and told us that a van they had stopped earlier had 18 east europeans hiding in the back!! Makes you feel sorry for people who feel the need to do that.

Stocked up with Bishops Finger real ale (£1.89 a bottle here, £9.99 a box of 12 there - effing government ripping us off again) before getting back on the ferry.

As we had freight tickets we had a meal in the 'drivers lounge'. Feeling hungry I had mushroom soup, roll & butter, salad bowl, half a roast chicken with chips and peas and a slice of cake with cream all for the exorbitant price of £3.60,,,, oh and a couple of drinks of diet coke...

Not such a smart move as it was a VERY rough crossing and several people 'lost their dinner'. As I was knackered by now I was able to miss all that - I was asleep again.

Think I'll have to take someone on to do these foreign trips - its too much like hard work!

Thought you could only put 900kg, 0.9ton in the extra weight version of the Cargo

Well any smaller loads let me know :p I can do just below 700kg

I think you misunderstood me. Thats a total of 1.25 tonnes spread over 3 pallets ie. a little over 400Kg per pallet. I doubt if you'd be able to get proper insurance being so young - you'll need 'Goods in Transit' and 'Public liabilty' as well as Courier insurance for the Doblo. The ferry would be more expensive with a trailer and your running speed would need to be slower than my van (70mph+) for safety.

We seem to have strayed a long way from Mrs_Gs clutch!
