Hi my Fiat Doblo taxi has just failed its council test ( MOT) on emissions any one got any ideas of any common problems what could cause this.

You got the results of the test? They should give you a printout detailing the readings. This can let you know in what way the engine is running out of parameters.

No they did not give me the print out. Think the reading was 1.39 if that helps.

Go and ask them for the printout.. If you havn't paid them yet try going somewhere else. I had a garage fail my old diesel tipo due to emissions. When I took it elsewhere it recorded the lowest smoke result they had seen.

I'm guessing since its a Taxi that its a diesel.. Give it a new air filter and if it didn't look too clogged give it a bottle of diesel injector cleaner.

Wish I could take it somewere else but been a taxi it has to be tested by the council Mot testers.

Will try changing the air filter today put some of that millers injector cleaner in yesterday. Is it normal for your car to run like its got a rocket up its backside with that stuff in as mine is.

Ah sorry about that...

Yeah rocket powered sounds about right. Give it a good thrashing then put it in for the test.

Yeh will do mate thanks for all the advice.

If your ever in Barnsley and need a taxi look for the rocket powered Doblo.

You could try putting a new air filter in and then taking the car for a good drive making sure the engine is revving high, driving through the gears is no good, you need to have the car revving at say for arguments sake, 5000rpm in second gear and drive like that for a bit, this will clear out all the old crap which should get you through the emissions part of the MOT if that fails then it could be lamda sensor.

I take it that you have been at a VOSA test centre. If the tester has failed to give you the printout he clearly violated the regulations. I hava been many hundred times at such test stations for tests and you can complain to a 'white coat'. They usually are very cooperative because they know when you go and complain to VOSA officially that they get a nasty visit. I have seen two of their staff being sacked in due course and very unhappy testers as the stations have been scrutinised by randomly visiting VOSA inspectors.
