Can somebody advise me what the emissions should be for my 6 June 2008 Doblo 1.9 Multijet 105 please?

Last year the desk at the MOT test said it failed miserably, l did say l was surprised, but he said it was "well over what it should be" and l'm sure he said 1.5.

He sold me a bottle of Fortes, l ran it as needed for an hour took it back and it passed, but no readout was given to me for fail or pass.

When l got home l checked online, and in the current 19th Ed of in service emission tests for road vehicles it has three levels for passenger vehicles.

One for cars before Aug 1 1979, visual assessment
The next for cars between 1 Aug 1979 and 1 July 2008, should be below 3.0
The last for cars after July 1 2008, and that is below 1.5

I think they tested mine in the third category in error, and may have been why they never gave me the test readout, but l want to be prepared this time in case it is again failed. (It never smokes in normal use, only when the EGR works when it goes for a gallop out of town once in a while, which l do before each MOT)

It's had a full engine service and a dose or Kerapor, and that sure did clear it out.

Hope somebody can guide me on this?

Thanks

Hi,

since i'm not quite familiar with the UK M.O.T. because i'm based in D i only can offer you a trick i used in order to pass our inspection process. In case the concerning engine seemed to have difficulties to pass the test i mixed about 50% of bio diesel with the ordinary one. The soot particle-number density usually will be reduced significantly then. 30% rapeseed oil would also do. If you use the latter mix you should consume the tank content driving not to slowly.

Good luck

I like your thought process there!

If l don't get any clarification on what the emissions should be, i'll be using bio before the test.

Thanks

Thanks for your reply Ralph

It seems as mine is on the cusp they just assume it's post July 08?
I'm armed to defend it on July 1st the mot day!

One of the MOT's failed on the visible smoke test, they didn't even put it on a smoke meter. When l got home and checked it, the visible smoke only applies to a car with a DPF. That garage nearly destroyed the engine, it was the hottest day of the year and this clown had the engine running in the garage for ages, talking to his mates and periodically going back to prod the throttle.

Lots of other deviations from the rules came to light when l rsearched it, including three people doing the MOT, him, one did the ramp inspection and another the lights and brake test.

The test finished and l waited half hour then impatiently went to the desk asking what's the delay can l pay and go now, and when l got to the car there was that smell of cooked gaskets/coolant and the temp gauge was off the scale.

After the retest armed with the necessary support from the MOT bible and a suitable discussion with the front man l've not been back there since.

That garage had a young woman who did the tests, she was great, fair but firm and that's fine by me. Since she's gone, it's shambolic.

Rant over......
