Hi guys, I’m new and was hoping someone could help.

My car starts fine but the gas pedal is completely unresponsive. Turning the car on and off a few times (10+) and voila, we are back in action.

It’s an intermittent problem, it sometimes works first go. Once I’m moving there doesn’t seem to any issues except the engine light being on.

Took it to a local garage and they say the fault is to do with the motorised throttle valve system. He took it out to clean it but said it was fine, didn’t seem to make a difference. He is now trying to find me a second hand part.

I was just wondering if anyone has had this issue and if this was the same cause? The car has done around 98-99k miles and is rarely used these days. Last year my mileage was 2.5k. It does go in for a full service every 12-18 months.

I have noticed that sometimes the lights on the instrument panel is a bit dim when the throttle is not working.

A brand new part is not justifiable, garage says around £700. Any help much appreciated and please bear with me as I’m not car savvy at all.

Thanks guys

Please post the code that is causing the engine warning lamp to be on.

Check the -ve battery wire and its connections. These wires can breakdown beneath the insulation.

Roughly Where in UK are you ?

Morning everyone, the codes currently showing are P1687 and P0638.

Apparantly there were other codes but they cleared them and they have not come back.

Appreciate any help!!

Well those are throttle codes.

What about battery negative lead?

Try turning ignition on so warning lights in dash are on , leave it for 60 seconds (Do not touch anything else during this time especially brake or gas pedals) turn key off leave it for 20 seconds. This gives ecu chance to learn throttle body limits.

You could try a used throttle body from a breaker / ebay .

Update: mechanic has tried all of the above to no avail. He is trying to find me a used part but no joy yet. Wish me luck!

Hi all, just to let you know that we couldn’t find a used part. Mechanic said that the car is safe to drive just that it might take me a few goes to get the car moving so I’ll just keep an eye out for a used part.

Thanks all for your help!

Hey, I’m back!!

So I plugged in the details of my into a local breakers yard and they called to say they had the part (whoop!) went and picked it up for £35 went back to mechanic who compared the part to what was in the car and said it’s wrong and won’t fit. At this time I managed to snap a pic of the part and can see a serial number. Googling said serial number brings up loads of parts that look identical but says it for a fiat 500.

So, do you think I can risk it? The part number is 40GTE3F and from I can see fits the 500 as well as a Ford Ka. Does same number mean same part regardless of make/model?

This is the throttle body in the car

Would appreciate some sage advice before I turn up again! Think my mechanic might be getting sick of me

No part for a 1.2 is different to your 1.4

The number you can see in photo looks like a casting number to be not a part number.

Grande punto 2005 to 2015 1.4 78hp
Uses same throttle body
