Hey guys. John from the classic panda section here.

just saved one of these from the scrap yard I work at.
it has an issue where the fuel pump only runs if I take out the relay and loop a bit of wire in the relays switched pins. the engine starts and runs fine after I do this.

the issue is if I leave this tempory fix as it is, is that the fuel pump stays running constantly.

so my question is, where does the fuel pump relays signal wire come from? I have pulled checked and swapped around all fuses to see if that was the cause. I have also swapped the relays around. like I say however I am never getting the 12v signal to power the relay on.

this is not an immobiliser issue as it still starts from the key.

here's what I think, someone before scrapping the van tried to get the fuel out. (many fuel lines were disconnected and it was totally empty. I know this because I do it with scrap cars to get the fuel out of them.) I think they used the built in pump to pump the fuel out but they put the jumper over the wrong pins. maybe blowing the transistor that sends the 12v to the relay to turn it on.. where ever this transistor is.
what I need to find out is where this transistor is. inside the main ecu or a body control module? what tells the fuel pump to power on? does any one have an ECU pinout so I can probe that directly?
with hope it will just be a hidden fuse but I really do not want to have to break into the wiring harness to follow the wire all the way back to where ever it goes.

if all this does fail, I will find another 12v live that only comes on when the immobiliser is lifted and wire the relay into that.

is anyone able to shed some light on this?

Thanks!

so I have done a bit of a fix and wired in the relay (T09) to an ignition live. no more battery drain.

however i have a permanent engine management light. after hooking up diagnostics it's coming back with one stored code which is the power relay control circuit. code P0685.

as I say I have gone around the fuse box but sadly nothing I can't take it in for an MOT with the light lit even though it's not really an issue now.

must be a fuse or something somewhere for it.

I really need to get an ECU pinout diagram so I know where to look. failing that we will see if good old tape over the light will get it to pass.

egr will be blanked anyway so that will also throw the EML after a while anyway.

hmmmm......

notes:

fuse F18 gives power directly to relay T09 (the one now wired to an ignition live)

need to find where this pin on relay T09 goes to.

this should be earthed to enable the relay to power on.
but what earths this pin? where does it go to?

bypassed fuel cut out trip switch in footwell. no luck.

tried earthing the earth pin on relay T09 to try to fool ecu.. no luck.
tried earthing a load through earth pin on relay T09 to try to fool ecu.. no luck

fuel trip switch in footwell is a different system/curcit to the relay T09.

tried bridging the pins with of relay T09 with different resistance values with no luck.

the wire must be damaged between the relay and ecu or ecu failure. wonder if water can get into the ecu connector.... ecu pins look fine.
check ecu grounding.... perfect continuity to ground and battery - post.

attempting to follow wire connected to ground pin on relay T09... pin 12 on brown connector under fuse box connects to earth pin on relay T09. pins and connectors in fantastic condition. pin 16 turns into a grey and red wire..attempting to locate in ecu plugs..

generic Bosch 223 ecu.

another thing to note:
appears to have air conditioning condenser and ac charge lines but no button on the dash... hmm.

must be some way to fool the ecu into thinking that relay is still connected...

Mod, please copy this text and paste it over the text in the above post, then delete this duplicate post. thank you. (being a panda classic mod i am use to being able to change a post with no time limit :D)
thanks :)

considering changing the whole ECU system to see if that fixes it. i am able to get the ECU, internal fuse box and key for around £130. i am not sure if i also need the clocks to go with them though.

another thing to note:
appears to have air conditioning condenser and ac charge lines but no button on the dash or controls hmm. anyone else have this too?

ok so i have replaced the BCM and ECU and chip in the key (£80 from ebay).

all is good now!

the thing even passed its MOT! the MOT tester told me that it is incredibly clean underneath all pipework and underbody work is totally rust free.

now i have to decide if i am going to keep it or sell it.....:chin:

Hi I'm having electric issues and was wondering weather yours would crank on but no start. My lift pump is not kicking in due to electric issue and looks like what prob you had.
Sorry to disturb old post jus at complete loss.
