Hi Everybody! I’m thinking of replacing the EGR valve on my 2006 1.9 mjet diesel cargo van.
I’ve narrowed the slight hesitation on accelerating to my worn valve.

My question is what make or price bracket do I need to be aiming for on for example eBay?

The cost varies between pretty cheap to relatively expensive. Is the quality of the cheapo units much worse than the more costly units? I’m guessing maybe the springs which make the thing work might be better quality on the posh ones.
It’s difficult to decide when the all look the same!

Thanks in advance! I’d appreciate any thoughts!

Try looking what shop 4 parts offer for your van

Try and clean all the pipe work out while you change the valve

Also look into fitting a restrictor plate at the same time to increase airflow velocity

Somebody changed theirs over the weekend..

Read their observations ;)

hello there

I changed mine over the weekend and it was a bit of a b*****d to say the least,

I have had intermittent running problems such as cutting out and going into limp mode pulling away from junctions or traffic lights.

no warning lights at all or error messages.

I replaced my EGR after looking at forums + internet etc but not sure if its cured the problems yet.

I also have a hesitation between 1750 - 2000 rpm on light throttle in any gear which hasn't been cured by replacing the
EGR valve either.

now looking at maybe MAP or MAF or boost pressure sensor.

Hi! I found changing the MAF sensor made a world of difference to the running of the engine, mainly in accelerating and general smoother running however it didn’t remove the slight hesitation on opening the throttle.
I moved on to the thermostat next as that always seemed slow to reach max temp. However we’d had an original Dobby jtd and that was always slow to heat so I assumed mine was acting in the same way. Wrong!:bang: Actually changing the thermostat also makes a difference to the general running. Clearly the MAF and thermostat are important!:) Changing those parts has definitely made the engine run better but I’ve still got the slight hesitation on accelerating that makes me feel I need to change the clean but grotty EGR valve. I’ll let everyone know when I swop it’s out for a new one ( I’ve chosen a mid cost option from auto supply shop) all vacuum pipes etc seem ok and no air leaks have been spotted which might affect the throttle plate/valve.
I remove the battery and tray plus fuel filter to do my spanner work, lots of space to find all the things that drop down into the engine then(n)
Also I’d like to add that the person who devised the thermostat housing and position on the engine deserves a special place in hell:devil: horrid job:mad:

when I changed the EGR valve on mine my arms and hands looked like they had gone 10 rounds with a sabre toothed tiger !

next time I do it im going to remove the engine to make it easier.

Hi,

For what it's worth....

My EGR was playing up, it was weekend and no chance of getting a new one.
So, I took it out and found that it was well sooted up...easy clean with oven cleaner.
But the problem was with the sticking solenoid, soot and gunk finds it way in and it eventually seizes up. The quick fix (on a Sunday) is to dismantle it (there are guides on how to do this) and give it a good clean. Reassemble...now works as it should do.

As for the hesitation, I had this and found that a dose of Redex Diesel Treatment did the trick.

The other thing that seems to make a difference to EGR/regen problems is a clogged up MAP sensor. You wouldn't have thought that being a pressure sensor it would mind being gunked up, but since I have been cleaning it every 6 months or so I haven't had engine failure / regen problems (touch wood!)

Cheers

Ron

I used to have 1.3 diesel same engine different car. For what it’s worth, when I was a care worker, I did a lot of stop start driving and more often than not I gave the engine an Italian service ;) I made good time on the way home most days if you get my drift. I had the vehicle for years with no problem regarding the EGR whatsoever.

i use two types of fuel cleaner

fuelset and fuel doctor. doesnt seem to have made a difference but i keep using it anyway incase its keeping the injectors/fuel system clean.

i do only short journeys in it and the only time it gets a thrash is when i tow the caravan with it but due to covid this hasnt happened this year.

i might tkae it to a local fiat specialist called Small Car services near Bishops Waltham in hants.
the guy used to be the head technician at AHF fiat in winchester and alot of people give him good reviews on here so he seems to know his stuff.

Hello everyone, new doblo owner here.
Does blanking the egr valve off throw the eml on. On the 06 1.9 multijet, it's a 105bhp.
Also, off topic slightly, on the ignition barrel it has a black button, what's it for.

Cheers for your help

on the ignition barrel it has a black button, what's it for.

In order to have sidelight you must turn ignition off then push the button and turn to position 1. You can draw the key then.

(This description is from the manual. Mine doesn't have that button, so i don't have sidelight.)

Cheers for that.
Mine doesn't work, I believe there's a common fault with them.
My key wont turn to park

They are quite unreliable. Try pushing a bit harder. Some FIATs need to switch sidelight on before pulling the key.

I've tried a few times, the keys comes out without going to park so not to worry.

Hold up Folks! just changed my EGR from these people autopartspro.co.uk
I chose a Nissens cos it was shiny. Changed the glow plugs for Bosch whilst all the plumbing was removed.
Totally recommend a mirror on stick and magnet on stick to help remove lost items from the bowls of the engine during reassembling!
Not sure I’ll ever be totally happy with the way my engine works but every little helps!!

Hi and welcome :)

I briefly blanked off my 2007's .. got 2 ERRORS after 20 mind driving.. performance was unchanged.. this was the 1248 motor

Ive had FIATs for years..
Not seen the black button since @2003

Yes it WAS the means of switching the parking lights.. nice and simple (y)

My 2004 panda needed some sequence of switches.. which I never remembered..

Decades ago.. my sisters vaux shovitt
That was a chevette..
needed to push the button to get the key from the barrel.. so the concept has been around a LONG time

Odd how its not triggering your lights.. unless there is some other dash..or column switch overriding it ?

how easy was it to do the glow plugs as I have the glow plug failure message coming up at the moment but it still seems to start ok.

I have thought about doing them before the winter but have read about horror stories on here about what an absolute bugger they are to change.

my car goes into small car services near bishops Waltham in hants on Thursday for it various small niggles and a cambelt change so hopefully they will make me love my dobbie again.
