Good evening, today I changed the cambelt water pump idler and tensioner, on my 2007 Doblo cargo 1.9 Multijet.
After I finished I started the engine let it run for a minute and switched it off while I went and got some antifreeze. When I went to start it again it cranked over for more than a minute before firing, once running was fine, left it running for 20 minutes while refilling the antifreeze, all was ok.
Just went to go out and it was the same as before cranked over for ages be fore it started. Once started it smelt of diesel but was running and driving fine. Question what do I check first?
Any answers gratefully received.
Cheers Rich

Evening,
99% sure timing is spot on but there always that chance I’m one tooth out, guess I have to strip it down again and check
Was wondering could I of damaged the camshaft sensor (have to be removed to change water pump) but it runs and drives great once started.
Glow plug light goes out after few seconds and no lights on dash.

Hi,
are you sure not to have damaged any fuel tube?
The symptoms are pointing to a leakage in the fuel system through which air comes in when the engine is off.
Good luck

Hello,
Think I’ve found the problem there a pipe leaking from/to the fuel filter but can’t decide weather the female pipe fitting is leaking or the plastic manifold? Male fitting is worn.
As it’s leaking I’m guessing air can get in. If I switch the ignition on and off a few times and let the pump run a bit each time it will fire up no problem
Anyone know the technical name for the plastic bit above the pump is?
As it’s Sunday will have a scoot around the internet to see if I can find a pipe and see if that stops the leak.
Cheers
Rich

Hi,
since i'm German i don't know the exact term but i searched on German ebay.
Could it be this one: https://www.ebay.de/itm/Kraftstoffschlauch-Rohr-fur-Fiat-Doblo-119-51743941-3/254160241324?fits=Model%3ADoblo|Make%3AFiat&hash=item3b2d2182ac:g:eek:n4AAOSwuhhc3Yf7?

Or, you dismount the part. Presumably you'll find a part number on it.

Another tip: I had a problem with negative pressure for the EGR in my gone VW Caddy. The tandem pump was ok, but the male nozzle had been worn out. The latter was not exchangeable, and i didn't want to pay about € 600 for a new pump.
I put some acrylic paste on the nozzle instead, put the plastic tube on, and fixed the latter by some binding wire.
It worked perfectly. OK, i harvested pairs of wide eyes from TÜV(MOT-equivalent)-checkers twice but the van passed the checks every time.

All fixed, turned out to be a accumulation of things.
Diesel leak was connector on top of pump that I managed to find a fitting for and timing was 1 tooth out plus a lazy starter not turning the engine over very quickly.
Cheers

Pipe on pump.. or filter.?

Glad you figured out the timing too

My old FIATs of the 80's used to get oil drooled on them.. :(

The oil would bind the carbon dust..

So a strip and clean would work wonders :)

Was the pipe that went from the black plastic manifold above the pump, back to the filter. Old quick release connector no longer gripped the spigot above the pump and was spraying diesel all down the back of the engine and all under the top engine cover. Nothing is ever going to get rusty under there again. Starter was nightmare to remove when everything soaked in diesel.
