Hello

I’ve just joined the group and have a unusual noise coming from my engine.

It makes a ticking noise that’s synchronised ive had a mechanic look at it and almost sure it’s not the timing chain and it seems to be coming from the turbo area
The van runs great at full speed but sometimes it runs rough on tick over and seems a little unresponsive at low revs

Is it DPF equipped?

hmm the 1.3 does naturally make a bit of a ticking noise on idle i have found (we have had 3 over the years) they all seem to do it.
my experience with engines tells me that it could be anything from a belt to the valve running gear.

if its the mk1 engine the turbo is pretty low down (as it has no DPF) but the mk2 engine has the turbo as high as the cam cover with the DPF below it.

has the engine been regularly serviced? oil change neglect can cause hell with engines, blocking filters and starving things like the valve hydraulic tappets from getting oil not to mention excessive cam chain stretch.
