Hi I've tried searching for this with no outcome.
when I go to connect my Doblo 1.9 multijet 120 to mes it only let's me connect as 1 6 valve engine and will not connect as 8 valve. I'm pretty sure the Doblo is an 8valve but I've done some procedures as it was connected as a 16 valve successfully.
it's a 2008 Doblo, can anybody clarify if Fiat made a 16-valve engine on these and by the look of it I'm pretty sure it's an eight valve???

Ah great thanks! You learn something everyday.
The thing is then it only performs slightly better than my old 105 jtd and the mpg is shocking in comparison, around 50 on the 105 8v, 37ish on the 120!

Yeah you'd think the 16 valves would someway compensate for the dpf ?, oh well...

Oh, that puzzles me.
Alright, a friend of mine who is working on Alfa Romeo and Fiat cars for quite a long time told me that this engine in my Doblo is quite the same as first released on the Alfa 156 in the late 90s which has been designed with Ferrari help.
Alright, i confess that i did not remove its head but i asked my friend whether i can put a 16V in. I thought about a 170 HP version. He said that on the top something has to be replaced but essentially it would fit.
If i had already a 16V he would have told me that, i'm totally sure.

Since MultiEcuScan protocolled a 16V on jon67's van could it be that someone before tinkered a 16V in? It is not impossible.

I'm puzzled, as i said.

One thing I can add is that there is only a single cam sprocket. So whether a single overhead cam can have 16 valves or not I don't know

Ah well then, oil filler is front left and Mes reporting EDC16C39, but also reports together with that 16v. Attached pic is when I first put it in as 8v

Do you have a plastic cover for your engine?

Searching through images on Google (some attached below) it looks like a 1.9 JTD/Multijet that's missing its top cover?

Similar to the 1.9 8v JTD engine pictured in this guide?

Not sure this really helps with your original question!

So as the MES is reporting EDC16C39 16 valve I'll take it that is not a problem.
If anyone else has had this or has anything else to add regarding 8v 16v on the 1.9 multijet please comment.
Thanks for the input so far...
