Hi all,
I bought a second hand van 1.3 fiat doblo multijet with 100.000 miles and it has never been really fast but I used to think was because is a "small" engine and for months i never had the chance to test properly. Today i had to go quite far and i realized that i had no power at all when i was on a street a bit inclined. The problem is mainly when for instance from 50mph I want to overtake or to have more speed and even if I change down gear it does not give me enough power to gain speed.
After this I realized that can not be a problem of small engine because my friend's car has a smaller engine in his Panda and is two times faster then my van. What could be the problem? My brother in law told me to check the turbocharger hose that could be cracked.

Hi, your brother in law is on the right track, i think.
A friend of mine has a 2003 1.3 JTD which has exactly the same problem. Since he's working on Italian cars regularly for a long time, he found the reason out quite easily. His van has run more than 250,000 km without fixing the issue which came up at about 150,000 km. Since the van is only used in city environment fixing is not economical. The value of the van (about 1,500 €) in fully working condition is lower than the repair price because he's very sure that after fixing the turbocharger hose the turbocharger will give up. Fixing the whole stuff will cost about 900 € for the parts plus at least the same for the work. The leftover of about 40 HP is enough for him.
If you want to fix the issue you better consider to buy a new turbocharger as well.
An alternative could be a a complete engine (with gearbox) from a scrap van or an engine which gave up after the discussed fixes have been made, and get the parts from there.
The 1.3 l JTD is not made for mountains. (Regurlarly the Austrian Post sells vans with about 30 kkms for less than 3000 € due to engine breakdowns.) On the other hand, the van runs for long if you accept that it grows older.
Sorry for having no better messages.
Good luck

Hi. :)
Watch the tevs.. from 1500 to 2000
Fairly flat.. then 2200 to 3000 should accelerate quite hard.

No push..no turbo effect. ;)

But.. if youve not been driving it hard.. it may take a bit of getting going..

What driving do you do.. does the engine het properly hot most trips?

Ook I hope the turbocharger is not going to break completely if the problem is the hose and I can fix it

Sorry man what you mean with "tevs"?

Hi guys, I've checked the intake turbocharger hose and it is not broken or cracked so it has to be something else, as my friend asked me to do I put the gearbox in neutral and I pressed the gas and the RPM reached 3000 and not more (it should easily reach 5000/5500 RPM. He even said that he does not think is the turbocharger the problem otherwise I should hear a noise of something broken and smoke should go out from the muffler. What could be at this point?
